LGA771 pin problem?

Main board supports two physical CPUs, system in sig. CPUs (E5450) have been tested separately and working. This setup was working about 20 months ago.

I have tried booting with two CPUs and the BIOS does not show up. Fans are spinning. I have tried booting with only a pair of memory sticks (2x2GB) and the video card. Connections are double checked.

I have noticed in the second socket that the pins are not aligned properly on at least one area, possibly two. On one area, the right side, I think a pin is missing or aligned somewhere else. I will get a magnifier for a better look and a good camera to post some cleaner pictures tomorrow as these are not very clear. Is it possible that these pins cause the boot problem?

Yeah, that socket is screwed up.

It's often possible to straighten out the pins using a needle or very small screwdriver.

Ouch, it needs a pair of steady hands to straighten those two pins.
Careful, often those pin could snap easily and practically destroy your hope to use that socket again.:hmm:

It looks like the socket is gone. At least one CPU is running happily. It was only the right side but it was a mess (sorry, no pictures). I finally broke the tips of six pins, straightened them as much as I could, but could not boot. The procedure took me two hours with some jewellery magnifiers (not the best for this, but very clear), pins and tweezers.

I found a board on eBay for 70 euro which is cheap enough, but I am not sure if it's worth it because I was going to use the second CPU for VMs. Maybe I will have another look at it if I can find better glasses.
