Ordered one today.

I will post some build pictures when it arrives (end of next week), but in the meantime, has anyone ever built with one of these? I made a mock-up out of cardboard, and I love the size!

I totally want to get my friend to airbrush it into one of those ghosts from Pac-Man

Man, good luck. Not like "good luck, you have a chance in hell that it will work out" good luck, but "I hope you have done your homework because it has a possibility of being badass", good luck.

What are you planning on punting in their and using it for?

It will be bad-ass, no question.

I'm starting out small, because I may just sell it to a co-worker or friend once it's built as a general browsing/media PC.

Internals I have coming:
Intel Celeron G530 2.4ghz dual-core
Gigabyte GA-H61N-USB3 Mobo
Windows 7 OEM
G.Skill Ripjaws 8gb (2x4gb)
Corsair CX430V2
Sony DVD Burner
1TB WD Green HDD

If all goes well, it is a GREAT little PC for a mom/dad type that just does general browsing... If that's the case, I'll take 1 4GB stick out and just sell it with 4GB.

Otherwise I can upgrade the CPU to an i5-2400, or i3-2100T (preferably) and a graphics card.

One thing I'm looking forward to testing is if I can fit a dual-slot graphics card. I've seen one modded to fit, and I want to know if there will still be airflow around it after that!

I've heard that with a HDD in the factory location, most graphics cards won't fit... But apparently you can mount the HDD against the front of the case with 2-sided tape (or velcro!). We'll see!

These cases are awesome. They are pretty easy to work in despite the small size. I recently upsized to the Q11 for more hdd room.

I went with silverstone's SFF powersupply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256063&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Power+Supplies-_-Silverstone-_-17256063. much smaller and gives the cpu a more breathing room. It is more expensive at 70 bucks but i love how i can still work in the case without having to take the psu out everytime. just a suggestion.

I saw that PSU today... I think in the future I will use that one for any mITX builds... It is double the price, but in the long run I'm sure it's worth it

Definitely have to use the CX430V2 I found for $15 in this case, though

I'm hoping to do a full photo build when I finally get everything, my trials and tribulations will be recorded! :awe:

oh yeah. 15 bucks vs almost 80 bucks. no contest there. have fun building it. I've built many computers but the fact that this thing is so small and just as fast as my i5 full tower put a smile on my face when it was done.

Recieved the case today... WOW this thing is small!

I am second guessing using a full size ATX PSU in there.. Especially being non-modular.. The PSU and Wiring take up 2/3 of the case!

Also couldn't get the PSU to fit through the opening in the back.. Had to install it through the side panel instead

Going to start hooking things up and see if it'll work...

Assembly complete!

Learned that with a 3.5" HDD, there is no chance of a dual-slot GPU (I mean cooler size, not actual slots).

I had to put in the only single slot GPU I have... GeForce GT220...

Only setback was a stray ziptie that got lodged in the CPU fan... Without a CPU fan it idled at 51C lol.

With everything running, CPU ~38C idle, GPU 42C idlem HDD 38C idle.

Only thing I notice there is the HDD gets hot sitting 1/8" from the GPU HSF!

Did a 20 minute test in Battlefield BC2, at 1440x900 low settings I average 40FPS, at 1024x768 medium settings I averaged 65FPS

CPU hit a max of 52C, GPU max 74C, and HDD didn't surpass 42C...

All appears good, no?

sounds good to me

i use laptop drives in this same case with a 560 ti . three laptop drives above the optical drive does fit with optical drive

i use a sfx 450 watt powersupply
ax140 heatsink
2500k cpu
h67 mitx board

am very happy with it

Looks great! What's your power draw and does it get pretty hot in there? It looks so tight.

I don't have any way to measure power draw unfortunately, that really is something I should invest in...

Space:
It is definitely cramped inside, however there is room where it needs to be! I was really worried about cooling when I was first putting it together, but after it went together, I realized there is actually a decent pocket between the CPU and the PSU fan. I faced the PSU fan towards the CPU to prevent a dead-air space.

CPU:
The temperatures don't get excessively high, with the stock intel HSF the CPU never got above 52C even when playing Battlefield 3 for over 30 minutes, where the CPU was at 100% the entire time. The processor is powerful enough for nearly anything I throw at it, except for when I play Battlefield 3.

Did I mention that I accidentally left a zip-tie uncut, which jammed in the CPU fan? I was amazed to learn that after 15 minutes of web browsing, the CPU was still only at 52C! Without a fan! I think this may be a good candidate for a fan-less system if one wanted to go that route.

Video Cards:
The main problem area I see currently is the HDD is too thick, preventing the video card from having enough room to breathe. The GT220 isn't a very hot card anyway, and due to the CPU bottleneck is not running at 100% the entire time, but it still reaches 74C after a long gaming session. That isn't dangerous by any means, but it is still the hottest thing in the case.

I tried to install a GT240 video card originally, but the 1.5 slot design (not quite dual slot) just wouldn't fit with the HDD installed in the factory mounts. If I had a SSD or a laptop HDD that I could just double-sided tape to the floor of the case, I believe the GT240 would fit without a problem. I have a GT430 on the way as well, I may test fit that too.

Wiring:
This was where things were the most fun for me. I've never been presented with this small of a space, where a SATA cable could actually be in the way of other parts fitting, let alone airflow! I managed to route the HDD SATA cable behind the motherboard, as well as the DVDROM SATA cable was routed between the side panel and the optical device. I managed to cram the PSU cables for those in the same spaces

The extra PSU cables were either slid underneath the USB ports on the bottom front of the case, or just folded between the end of the PSU and the front of the case, making sure to not invade the CPU space.

Noise:

Not sure what is making all the fan noise, but this is definitely far from a silent system. I am thinking it's the GPU being 1/8" from the HDD causing 80+% of the fan noise. If I block the bottom vent near the GPU it silences most of the noise. Still trying to figure out how to fix that without just removing the video card!

Thinking the video card was the culprit of the noise, I flipped the HDD upside down and managed to squeeze the GT240 in there! Probably 1/16" between the two, however the HSF on the GT240 expels out the sides so it should still cool adequately.

Noise is gone! Almost a silent PC now

Temps are great at idle, CPU 36C, HDD 37C, GPU 42C. Going to see what happens when I fire up BF3

-edit-

Fired up Battlefield3, and framerates were similar to the GT220... Temps were lower, however, as the GT240 peaked at 68C whereas the GT220 was in the 78C range... Bottleneck is still the G530 Celeron for sure!

Assembled and ready to deliver to its new owner

Ran the furmark stress-test, and after 5 minutes the graphics card was up to 82C.. CPU at 52C. Decided that's enough to know it takes a lot of work to really heat it up... And the lack of an active fan doesn't help to expel that heat!

Oh well I'm sure it'll be used for web browsing and maybe some poker in the future

Can't wait until the next build!

Wow did I ever build this thing a long time ago!

Just delivering it to the new owner this week, he's been a bit flakey on the $$$ side... I held onto it for 5 months! My how time flies!

Had to pillage the GT240 from it for another computer, put a GT220 in there... as well as I replaced the CX430V2 with a CM460U PSU.

Thinking of putting a smaller HDD in there instead of the 1TB WD Green too

You make me wait I pillage parts!

Best news is he is going to buy my Monitor as well (22" Widescreen 1680x1050) so I can justify buying a 27" 1200p Monitor :biggrin::biggrin:

2 and a half year update, the owner still loves the PC, uses it mainly for browsing and online poker, and his kids have been using it for World of Warcraft... and they fight over who gets to use it
