hahahaha its so funny seeing the neocons all like "no we shouldnt pick sides" now that we arent in charge, its the UN retards not the us.

If the whole world wants to get together and stop a dictator from bombing his own people then its good.

The us going alone into a foreign country with no exit strat and horrible retarded leadership on bunk intel is bad.

Please, even you retards must see this difference.

Yeah, right. This is just another corporate subsidy the US makes at tax payer expense. Get over it. If you don't like supporting big business you live in the wrong country.

That doesnt make sense to what I wrote.

I wonder why the chinese don't want to get involved at all. they would get to try out their naval/air tech without putting troops on the ground, the gratitude of the rebels, and access to a shitload of quality oil and gas. they've probably already got favor with the khadaffi gov't, maybe even more siding with the rebels.

I don't really see how the Chinese military can mobilize and project their forces 1/2 way across the world.

I wonder what will happen post Gaddafi. My money is on a prolonged civil war and decades of instability. Gaddafi to Libya will be what Saddam is to Iraq; vicious, but the only one capable of controlling to country.

I think the response from the UN was intentionally delayed to the point its no longer relevant, Gaddafi has pushed the rebels back enough for this to be pretty done with (unless the world actively attacks the Libyan army). Why? Because Gaddafi is the devil we know, he produces oil and keeps things reasonably tidy. What would happen to the oil production if the Libyan tribes will now clash for control of the country for decades? It ain't pretty.

But then, it's not PC to sit aside while protesters are getting bombed from aircraft, so you wait until it no longer matters and then do some finger waving.

Too little, too late

I was rooting for the rebels

(but I am against US involvement)
I don't think the goal of the U.S. is by any means to help the rebels. So many of them will be killed by Federalist forces as collateral damage that it would make those who crushed the Whiskey Rebellion proud. Federalist forces are just doing it for glory and to increase the deficit. Maybe so Rockefeller and JP Morgan Co. can make slaves out of us.

Great, now east Libya becomes Kurdistan Vol. II. How long will NATO be running sorties over the country? 10 years? 20?

Prob 10 years then a terrorist from Pakistan or Saudi Arabia will blow up a high speed train and we will invade Libya.

Are you calling me a neocon you shart-gargling bitch?

Would Europe have been honor bound to bomb the White House if David Koresh had asked for help to save himself from an oppressive government? Or is bombing your own citizens OK as long some fucknut on the internet like Jstorm says it is?

Yeah, I'm sure when Qaddafi is ousted, the rainbows will burst forth from every ass and leprechauns will start dancing in the streets of Tripoli as the rebels install the reincarnation of Mother Theresa on the throne.

You're no better than a neocon you blind moron.

Actually as far as I can tell, neoconservatives are critical of Obama for not already being in Libya. And it looks like it'll be Britain, France and the U.S. (but mostly the U.S.) going into Libya with no plan, no exit strategy, no leadership and no intelligence.

There differences are there - they're worse.

Take note Republicans, instead of losing a war for 10 years you could overthrow a government in 10 days.

It did not take long to overthrow Saddam's government and The Taliban's government once direct military actions began. The insurgencies / civil wars that resulted after the governments were overthrown are different stories...

NATO started operations in Afghanistan on 10/7/2001, Kabul fell on 11/14/2001.

America, Britain and friends invaded Iraq on 3/19/2003 and Baghdad fell on 4/9/2003.

Take it, the Taliban and Saddam's supporters were still actively fighting in their respective regions, but both had lost control of their countries.

Its going to be like Desert Storm.
They will bomb the crap out of Libya, declare victory without regime change, and then roll out.
After all of that the regime will resume the slaughtering of civilians.

That doesnt make sense to what I wrote.

Just don't understand how money makes the world go round do you. If the government demanded that France and the Arab nations pay they'd just refuse. France can buy oil elsewhere and if Gaddafi is busy fighting a civil war he's no threat to the region.

Corporations want the oil to keep flowing and the prices to remain low enough for the world economy to keep expanding. If that means buying off dictators like Mubarak and Saddam Hussein for billions a year, then that's what the US government does. If it means keeping Gaddafi grounded, then that's what the government does. If the world economy contracts, the US goes down with it.

France and Britain being considered the whole world and all.
To a progressive, "the whole world" means anybody but the USA.

I think conservatives are critical of Obama for being the Undecider. If he decided to go in within the first few days, fine. If he decided to stay out, fine. But now we have the appearance at least of the worst of all possible worlds: we're going in, but after it would possibly do much good.

Be sure to place Obama on an Aircraft Carrier with the banner 'Mission Accomplished' when you feel this action is successful. Then get back to us when we have military forces on the ground 10 years later.

Maybe JSt0rm will be joining the Marines so he can storm the shores of Tripoli and show how to win the war in 10 days,

It's easy. All you have to do is post something on the internet so stupid and crazy it confuses the enemy! Then while no one is paying attention slip in the back door and steal all their weapons.

I'm curious to see how this plays out. What are the objectives to this no fly zone?

Obama warns him not to kill "civilians" What are civilians? How are rebels fighting against Libyian forces deemed to be civilians?

Wouldn't Afgani and Iraqi 'rebels' fighting against their (new) governments and coalition troops therefor be civilians too? (We've been calling them "enemy combantants")

Is the Obama admin (and the Dems/liberals) creating some confusing policy here? How do these two things mesh?

If Obama intends to disquinish between rebels and non-rebel civilians, how will we be able to tell the difference between the two? Libyian troops will say they were rebels, rebels will say they were civilians. Sounds like a mess to me.

I understand the optics of just sitting around while these rebel/civilians are slaughtered by bombers etc. But Libyian troops have tanks and artillery. Is it bad when they are blown up by aircraft, but OK if it's tanks/artillery? If so, why?

If Libyia forgoes jets and just uses tanks/artillery, are we gonna have to step in to stop that too? If not, why not? Wouldn't we look hypocritical if we allowed it?

If Khadaffy is overthrown, who's next in line? If we don' know, why bother? I think it fantastic to believe they would turn to democracy, or could even manage it.

------------------

When peoples of other countries become unhappy with their government and rulers, It's not our responsibility to go in and fix it for them. It's a thankless job too. I really don't see what's in this for us.
