Hey, So i bought a 2000 laptop 2 years ago....a guy at compusa sold me a 3-yr warranty for $500, he said that if anything happens to it, they'll just replace it for me. I've had problems with this laptop for a while and finally had some downtime at work to check it in...the had to replace a bunch of stuff, (the bill was $1500)...I had expected to get a new laptop, but no, they just poured 1500 into my piece of crap...i'm sure people have been lied to here, is there anyway i can make them make good on their promise. I felt like i've been taken...Or has anyone ever gotten compusa to give them a new laptop? thx.

That sounds too good to be true. For $500 warranty, replace the laptop with a new one within three years?

Did you get a paper or anything for your warranty? Maybe the fine print states something like it?

Rule #1. If its not on paper it didnt happen / doesnt count. And now you know to ALWAYS read your contracts.

That's right. There's no way a 17 y.o. pimply-faced sales dude knows the parts of the warranty, but, rather, just says enough to you to make the sale.

Is there a clause that states something about if the lappy breaks 3 times within a given time period that they send you a new one?
This may vary from state to state depending on insurance regs. and laws.

You should have asked about the laptop warrenty before they began work. Now you're in a tight spot.

I still want to know how they found a way to put $1500 worth of stuff in a 2 year old laptop that only cost $2000 to begin with.

I believe it's up to them to replace or fix it...I guess they felt they could refurbish it

there was a black patch on the screen and they replaced that along with some other little things...so that's why it's 1500. The laptop isn't even worth 500 now, so i didn't even care for those repairs...make a long story short, don't buy compusa warranty, they lie about everythign to get you into it.

...make a long story short, what does the warranty actually say? Several have asked, yet you post this drivel.

You say you didn't want them to pour $1500 into your "crappy laptop." How would it be any better if they replaced it? If they replaced that much stuff, it should be as good as new. What'd you expect, they'd replace it with a current laptop?

Your warranty was to keep that laptop working, or to replace it with one like it, not to replace it with one that sells for $2,000 today. That's true of pretty much every warranty I've ever heard of, for every kind of product.

Some people luck out on things like hard drives or video cards and get a better replacement, but the company involved was in no way obligated to do that.

The kid was just giving you a common assumption about laptop warranties, that after so many years a laptop will be so obsolete that it makes sense just to give the costumer a new one. Apparently you chose a good enough product that that was not the case. post your specs and let us know what you are pissed about getting back

did you really expect them to give you a new laptop? doubtfull they would have. they would have tried to find the same laptop you have NOW or replace what they have.

you don't DESERVE a new laptop you deserve to get the one you have fixed. Fvuck people trying to get free upgrades suck.

Did you read what the warranty would cover? did it say if something breaks we will give you a new laptop? did you even read it BEFORE you paid for it?

it sure does not sound like it.

It's almost always the warranty companies decision on whether to repair or replace, and sometimes they can choose to refund you the warranty amount instead of performing/honoring the work. So, instead of spending $1500 to fix it they may have decided to give you $500 back (maybe prorated so, probably closer to $100).

Of course they want you to buy warranties again so they generally don't screw you that badly, but, the moral is to read the contract. Sometimes the contract doesn't come until a few weeks later (via mail), but, in that case the stores will generally refund the warranty price if it turns out to be not what you were told.

At least you got *some* value out of it.
