When was the last time you almost died?
Last time I remember was when I was 6 yrs old, stepped in the swimming pool and drowned for 2 min before someone saw me and picked me up. I'm lucky to be alive today, very lucky that is.
Share your side of the stories, thanks.

i was about 6 also and i was playing around in this quicksand stuff ( it was more like mud, but it could swallow u up just like quicksand). anyways i'm 6 and i didn't really believe in quicksand, just tought it was somethin u see on TV so I step inside it and I can't get it out, its going up to my neck and i'm starting to think, i'm dead meat. but luckily this guy comes and pulls me out with a stick as the mud is like reaching my mouth. whew.

Believe me, I know it can.

I know a kid who was killed last year when an elk hit in an oncoming lane landed on top of the car he was riding in.

I was lucky.

Lessee......
7 years ago I hit a guardrail in a corner on a highway going 60 mph. The corner was on a big drop, so if I would've went over, I would've been history. As it was, I should've been history. Walked away w/ a limp, but nothing broken.

White-water rafting on the Salmon River in Idaho, got sucked under while rafting on a two-man. Got thrown around underwater like it was on spin-cycle for awhile. That was hairy.

Was with another friend in his Honda Accord a few years back and he was zipping down this windy road and the car broke loose. One side was hill, other side was down down down. Never went over the edge, luckily enough. Just as the car came to a stop, another car came around the corner. Couple seconds sooner and it would've been ugly.

Coming home from work one night and some fool in the oncoming lane swerves over into MY lane to miss a friggin' deer. They got back over just in time, but F!$% pal... I think I'd rather hit a deer than a car going 60 in the oncoming lane!!!!! Took awhile to get chilled out after that one.

There's more, but I think that's enough sharing for me for today.

You were under water for 2 minutes? Thats impressive holding of breath. I am always trying to see how long I can hold my breath under water while swimming, my best has been 90 seconds. (< I know how easy it will be to make some jokes here on me, restrain yourselves lol)

Now my story: Mine was a swimming pool one as well. I used to not know how to swim, and when I was 17 at someones house, some idiot pushed me in to the deep end of a pool. (B/C noone ever belives you when you tell them you cant swim)

I was under for just over a minute, till I was pulled out.

I was driving my Dad's dually (sp?) crew cab truck and I was going around a corner and on to an overpass over I-25. Well, I had just gotten my license and there was a cop behind me and I was a little nervous because I was going over the speed limit. I miss the turn, went up on the guard rail of the overpass and flipped the truck. The cop said that he had no idea why I didn't end up down on the Interstate because the way the truck was positioned on the rail, he thought for sure I should have. I had two friends with me also. I guess someone was looking out for us that day.

Went camping once and there was a bear when we woke up about 30 feet away. He looked hungry and made growling noise. We got scared jumped into the jeep and hit the gas. Came back later and a lot of our stuff was all over the place.

See if I can keep this short...

Playing club roller hockey 2 years ago for UBuffalo... some huge defenseman for RIT hit me with a crosscheck in the abdomen area (I think that's when it happened) and I felt a slight nagging pain, but not enough to have to quit playing. Anyway, it was a double-header that Sunday and this happened toward the end of the first game. In between games, we were ready to start-up the second one when I told my captain I couldn't play anymore because I couldn't even stand up straight anymore. So I drove home alone and as I got back near the dorms, I made a right turn onto a small road and started to black out. Thankfully since I was in the middle of a turn, I was going slow enough to get the car to a stop and put the car in park. I woke up sometime after, not sure how long after, and found myself on the wrong side of the road sweating bullets.

I drove the 1 mile I had left back to my dorm and called the university's "medical center" and they advised me to go the hospital immediately. If they hadn't, I would have just tried to sleep the pain off. So anyway, a friend drove me over and as I entered the emergency entrance of the hospital, I fainted again in a wheelchair. Few minutes later, I wake up in the trauma room with about 9 people surrounding me and cutting up my clothes and sticking needles in me.

To make a long story short, a CTScan revealed that I my spleen was busted in half and I was bleeding internally. They told me I was blacking out not because of that, but because I had been dehydrated so much (I neglect to drink any liquids during games).

Immediate spleenectomy, spent 5 days in the hospital realizing how much you really need abdominal muscles for... then got back into action 6 weeks later. I still have a very visible scar down the center of my stomach. Thanks to the doctors, I have a not-so-nice reminder of the whole thing.

If it were not for the university medical center's advice, who knows if I'd be here today. The lady called me a few weeks after and I thanked her for saving my life.

I had a ton of fun whitewater rafting a few times....until I fell overboard...that is when you realize the true power of water! I don't think I'll ever go again.

When I was 15 I was on my bike holding onto a friends car by the driver door handle. She sped off and I tried to hang on but couldn't, and wiped out on my bike as the car pulled me. I hit the ground and saw the rear wheel pass by my nose...so close.

I was riding my bike down a hill and an SUV making a right turn cut me off. I was to the right of the vehicle and it turned in front of me. My front tire hit the side of the SUV and my head banged against the body panel right in front of the bumper. A few more inches and the bumper would have snagged my head and dragged me a few feet. I was pretty shaken up.

I had both my airbags deploy falsely. Fortunately I was backing out of a parking spot and not going 65 on the Interstate to work. Still haven't got my car back (dealer gave me a loaner (free)) for going on two weeks.
