Yeah, and someone with a BS in engineering or name your profession still makes a hell of a lot more than me.

Tell you what, next time we have a take a dickhead to wok day, you can come along, help me wipe someone's ass one minute, hang/titrate a vasoactive drug, manage an airway of a fresh post op patient with obstructive sleep apnea, or code someone the next minute.

Also ask any professional you know, when they have a slow day at work, do they get sent home with no pay? Do their employers bring entire planeloads of scabs from overseas to work for less $ artificially reducing the supply demand curve? Does gasoline cost less for me or do I get special rates to heat & cool my home or reduced auto insurance? Do they have to work all day with no freaking break or lunch, feeling guilty to leave their patient's bedside because there isn't enough staff & have to figure out how to get the bathroom so they don't crap themselves and their patient doesn't freaking die while you're on the toilet? Do they get calls at 1am, have to show up at work within 1/2 hour or lose their job, turn around and show up at work at 7am and not screw up because you had 3 hours of sleep, and you hope to hell you can function & not kill someone accidentally, and then get told to wash your hands 500 times a day?

Bite me and I hope to hell you get taken care of by an underpaid sleep deprived nurse next time you're in the ER after a car wreck, heart attack, or alcohol poisoning and expect them to save your sorry ass.

Yep, I get seriously pissed when someone suggests nurses are overpaid.

I worked my ass off in college to get my degree, and have worked my ass off for the last 20+ years to earn my salary, and life ain't like House on TV where you can tell everyone to fuck off all day & expect a paycheck no matter how good you are. I wasn't even expecting a raise this year outside of the 2% I got earlier this month. I celebrated by spending an extra $15/ a month & added a data plan to my smart phone so I don't have to look for free WiFi.

I'm off today, the next time I don't have to show up at work is next Thursday. I'm working or on call every day till next Thursday. But hey I'm fusking overpaid, so that's cool.

Amen brotha, I'm the IT director at a hospital and there's no way I could be a nurse.

Yet alone being asked to leave because things are slow, but I work at a for-profit hospital and there's absolutely no overtime.

I'm salaried so there's no worry for me, but for nurses that's a bummer.

And then there's dealing with the patients and the injuries.

Congrats! That rocks. Though nothing can be as bad as getting $1 raise in 6 years. Dumb and inexperienced youth cause that stupid mistake. Luckily i quit when they told me i couldn't get anymore money. Lol When a company makes anout 3 millon a year, aparently more then $1 is breaking the bank.

22 years experience with a shitload of certifications, and I just missed 6 figures this year.

My salary is better than most because I pay attention to $ and jump from job to job for the extra $, I'm stuck where I am for the next 3 years because I'm not vested in their $402K yet.

Manager explained that my hospital had essentially given up on trying to recruit nurses with bonuses etc & decided to focus on keeping their in house talent happy instead.

You literally wouldn't believe how crappy the new nurses are we hire, I can't figure out why they're so bad, the schools are really selective about who they'll even allow to enter.

After working in our area for a year one of the new nurses asked me to put in a work order for the sink in the dirty utility room because it wouldn't drain. I asked her wtf she was talking about, turns out she didn't know it was a giant toilet for emptying a bedpan into

I've always wondered where the hell she was emptying bedpans for the last year ever since??????

How old are you? I'm aiming to get near that salary (30-40$/hr) (minus all the OT pay) by the time I'm 30.

Theoretically I could get it now but I'd have to move again and I'm not sure I'm down with that.

you sound like the type of nurse that does give a damn. i've been hospitalized once and the nurse that I had literally woke me up in the middle of the night and spent half an hour poking around in my veins with a really big needle.

but kudos to you if you really excel at what you do, and i apologize if i've offended you.

I'm sure you got a lot of stories, but I sure do get a lot of calls from nurses who don't remember their username after working here for 3 years. We had one call complaining about a census printing out differently and she couldn't get it to look right when she folded it the way she wanted.

Nice. I know people can make a killing with OT. I got guys that are just "techs" for construction work with an associates and pull down 90k a year.

You forgot to mention it's washing your hands 500 times in COLD water "because there is no study which indicates warm water is actually more effective than cold" and then having no paper towels to use to dry your hands with.

Go get em big guy!

what kind of patient:rn ratio are you looking @?

have you done ed + critical care yet, if so have you consider going for crna cert?

are there laws in your state to stop excessive mandatory OT? (how sleepiness equate alcohol level in cognitive functions)

how would you answer this statement 'there is no real nursing shortage, just a lack of them willing to do bedside nursing'
