Well last week it was reuniting myself iwth hot pockets and today i found in the fridge lunchables..

I haven't had lunchables since the 3rd grade. I see they still use Tombstone sauce. They actually make decent size little pizzas. Apparently now you can even make your own koolaid.. I haven't had koolaid since the third grade either..

And they even package a little airheads candy in there.

Neat stuff!

Isn't there a chipotle nearby?

$5-6 bucks for the equivalent of 1lb of food and really two solid meals.

The pizzas are good if you put them in the toaster oven for a little bit

We have heavily subsidized dorm food here - $3.25 for a full sized sub with anything on it, as long as you pay from your food account.

I don't think I could handle dorm life...I enjoy going home after classes where my wife fixes a nice hot meal made from "real food" not that crap youse folks eat.

I "lived" in barracks for my 4 years in the USMC. VERY much like dorm life I suppose. Usually 2 Marines to a room, ate in the chow hall, and scrounged what you could, when you could.
I worked several jobs where there was no housing available and the company set up "man-camps" for us to stay in. Again, not too much different than dorm life. We ate crap food in cafeterias which wasn't always that healthy or well prepared...

Don't you get a meal plan or something? We get $1600+/semester to do whatever we like with. As freshman we were guaranteed 7 meals a week and had $300/semester to do whatever we liked with.

We do. It's "fall break". The cafeteria closed yesterday after supper. Won't be open again till Wednesday morning.

Look around campus for posters for special seminars featuring guest lecturers and go. Often there is free food before/after the lectures. Bring a backpack.

I'm guessing Chipotle is pretty much the same thing as Qdoba, and if that's the case, then no way is that 1lb burrito good for two meals.

I have been actually No more of them till next month though..

I checked out the meal programs thing too. There's no openings. It's such a small town even the food shelter has all the people they need and dont want the crowding of extra people.

As for the blog comment, why not? It's a slow day.

My friend is in the army and said they serve better food than the stuff we get here on campus. (He spent a year in college here before he got recalled.) I'm assuming that the army and the marines feed their soldiers relatively the same stuff. I actually like the meal plan food though, and it's nice to not having to cook.

I can't say that mess hall food was GOOD, but it was edible. Some of the crap they served in Vietnam wasn't quite so good...field kitchens often lack some of the basic necssities that stateside mess halls take for granted. Powdered eggs and some of the other "foods" designed for use in field conditions rarely taste good, but when prepared with a bit of care and ingenuity, can at least be edible and contain basic nutrition.
This is one reason that "CARE packages" from home are so important to our troops. (see the stickied thread from Grunt 03 here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2190470&enterthread=y )
