Life of an LCD

I am seriously considering purchasing an LCD. Either the Samsung 191T or the Viewsonic VX900. My question is, does the image quality of LCD screens slowly degrade like it does a normal CRT monitor? What is the life expectency of an LCD compared to a CRT, and when the LCD does die, what is the normal method of death? =)

And lastly............ Samsung 191T vs. Viewsonic VX900 .............. can't decide =) Or is there another that is better than those 2?

The main failure mode is a dead backllight, but they have a MTBF of 25,000-50,000 hours

Hence a little over 3 years..

But thats constantly on too.

where i work there are many 5 year old 15" displays. they look as good as the day they were bought. they also basically been on all day, every day for the entire 5 years.

Ok I am getting really close to ordering the Samsung 191T tonight.... does anyone think it is worthwhile waiting for the 192T ? Anyone have an idea about how long befor e you can purchase them and will they be much more expensive at first?

I want to hear any objections people may have to purchasing the Samsung 191T =)

There are no Samsung 192T reviews yet and no release date/price at this time,so nobody can tell you what improvements if any are in the 192T.


Bottom line , if you`re buying right now then go with the 191T,if you don`t mind waiting then the 192T might be another option depending on price down the road,no crystal ball will tell you that right now .
