Yeah, that sounds horrible. Hell, just having to deal with a corporate security policy on my only cell phone would drive me insane.
Maybe someone should attempt an iHack (my made-up name for putting iOS on an unsupported device).

iPhone 3G was my first smartphone and later I moved onto the iPhone 4 and then the 5.

The 5 started to chip away at its chamfered edges immediately after I started using it. This was with zero drops and proper care. I wasn't using a case but still. It really left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like Apple made a beautiful phone that simply won't hold up even if you take care of it. People like to crap on Samsung for their use of plastic (and in a way justifiable so), but at least those phones don't break down from normal wear and tear.

I ended up selling my iPhone 5 and getting the S4 Active. The 5" screen makes a world of difference and I think it's the perfect size for me. The apps are not as good as iOS versions in many cases but they also aren't terrible. TouchWiz sucks at copy and paste compared to iOS. And their Notes and Gallery stock apps suck IMO. But my complaints stop there. Plus I'm running Nova which I like a great deal.

I'm mulling a move to T-Mobile this fall for their unlimited plan. Unlimited data is awfully tempting. I also would like to stream all my music from Google Music and pin what I truly need for offline use. I never want to locally manage music ever again. (iTunes, AirDroid, nothing.) GMail 4.5 is a game changer IMO. How I lived without a notification light for so long I do not know.

I'm actually in the process of interviewing for a new job. If I was forced to use an iPhone again I'd manage but a 4" screen at this point would truly suck. A 5" iPhone would be killer and it's a shame Apple still hasn't brought it to the table just yet. Feels inevitable though in 2014. Curious to see how cheap the 5C will be off-contract.

Thankfully my company is BYOD, I would rather pay for my own Android device and service than suffer through using an iPhone.

I can do actual work from a Android device if the need arises, a iPhone is barely capable of handling work email while on the go.

Odd, I have no problems dealing with work email every day from an iPhone. You may want to stop trading on false stereotypes for a little while!

I would use a Blackberry if my company paid for it.

Anyone who's so obsessed with their choice of mobile platform that they'd refuse to work at a company that requires a competing OS... will likely have trouble getting hired.

Indeed. Anyone who's that zealous and closed minded about a computing platform is not someone I'd want to work with.

I worked with a guy who I had no idea was like this, I got a Lumia 820 and he saw it and asked me about it. I ended by saying "I like it way more than my old phone" "which was?" "a Samsung Galaxy Note"

he gave me a pissy look and just walked away. I went to ask him a work related question 2 days later, he wasn't in his cubical but I noticed his PC's wallpaper was the Android robot. From that day forward he was a dick to me lol.

Our company uses MDM Management software forcing you to use iPhones.

We also have lots of in house apps designed to run only on iphones. We also have iphone apps for our actual products. We can even have apps that allow us to control things in board rooms if desired.

Its not the end of the world - I will miss the screen size more than anything. And all the Apps I've already paid for from the years of Android use.

iTunes is really the thing I hate the most about iphones.

The camera will be as good/better as My Note II, using it as an iPod at the gym will be decent. I will survive.

My only experience using an iPhone and Mac at length was at my last job.

I wrote the prototype for MDM management software for ios. I really hated how locked down it was. I left to take another job but the process for being able to distribute your own in house apps and policies was maddening. Just signing up for an enterprise iOS dev account and the policies around talking about the enterprise iOS SDK were ridiculous.

I did not give up my personal phone.... I just had two work iPhone s

I passed up an iphone 5 (about 7 months old) for $400.00 and had no qualms about it. My sister was going to sell me her one so she could get a new one.

I presently have an android phone now and I sleep good at night. lol!

Looking at a tiny postage stamp sized screen while trying to type on a tiny keyboard without intelligent text prediction is not my idea of handling email well.

I have had a 4" phone before and there is a reason I still don't.

Not to turn this thread into more of iOS vs Android, I tried a larger screen size phone and did not like it. I didn't like how a large phone felt in my pocket, especially when sitting down. The iPhone 5 feels perfect in size for me. I can use the phone with only 1 hand while riding the bus or subway whereas I couldn't with an Android.

Also, one of the main reasons why I SWITCHED from a Galaxy Nexus to iPhone 5 was because I could never type efficiently on Android keyboards. The text prediction is horrid compared to iOS from my own experience.

I would go back to Android because iTunes simply sucks to use. This is the only flaw of iOS in my opinion. No drag and drop. iTunes still confuses me.

Apple, you hear us? Just give us freaking drag and drop.

I personally hate iTunes with a passion.

Screen will take some getting used to from what I came from.

Getting used to one hardware button

Getting used to not being able to manually select camera settings

I have a ton of paid Apps already on Google that will go wasted now

Getting used to new EcoSystem

Losing ability to play almost any file type for Music/Movies natively.

No Widgets

No SD Card

It sucks - But I don't want two cell phone bills when I only need 1.

Just realized today I need to get a new Sim card now too... Nano sim.. like MicroSim wasn't small enough.

For videos..theres an app for that. Seriously though there are some good ones. VLC being one.

Yeah but you have to go through iTunes an add each video to the app's "share folder" or whatever it is and then you can play it. No such shenanigans with Android.

The keyboard is one of the best and is very accurate.

VLC on iOS will play just about anything you throw at it. No need to convert, and there's no need to even touch iTunes.

I just moved into a new position at work where it is now my job to setup and support company iPhones. Our company switched from Blackberries and mifi's about half a year ago and now they use iPhones and the personal hotspot.

Though there are some problems. They are only buying the iPhone 4S to save money. And they are replacing employees Verizon LTE mifi's with this 3G iPhone. So when they tether their laptops to this, it's a considerable speed reduction from what they had before. Ugh. I have a feeling the person that had my position before me didn't even know the difference between 3G and LTE.

We don't have an MDM server. I played around with the iPhone configuration utility and installing a configuration profile on new phones. But for now I'm not going to really use this. Because we have a problem were quite often employees iPhones will stop syncing with Exchange. And when I install a configuration profile the employee can't remove and re-add their Exchange account without removing the configuration profile, which I think is kinda stupid. So I need to do some research on that issue.

I've used iPads for a while, but for me, Android has always been my choice of phone. I've been using my work Exchange account on my Nexus 4. Though setting up Exchange on an Android phone the first time takes considerably longer than an iPhone, because you have to encrypt the Android phone before Exchange will work. But so far I've never had any sync issues on Android as quite a few of our iPhone users have had.

I'm currently carrying around both the iPhone 4S from work, along with my Nexus 4. But I don't think I can give up the 4.7 inch screen size. Also I'm a bit more into Google's eco system than Apple's and I use Google All Access music, which isn't available on the iPhone, so that is another barrier. Though oddly YouTube seems to be slightly better on the iPhone (pull down to refresh actually works). Also happy to see Chromecast works pretty well on the iPhone.

Give it a few weeks and I think you will find iOS can do just about anything you can do with Android. Sure it isn't very customize but once you get used to it, you won't miss all the work you had to do to make your Android experience optimal.

And no surprise, lots of Android fanboys here who have never used iOS, they just know it sucks and is for losers.

It wouldn't be so bad if they made an iPhone with a bigger screen. Not exactly a fan of Apple, but I don't think their phones are horrible by any means.

There are some rumors of Apple experimenting with bigger screens. But all the Apple rumors lately have been dead wrong so take it with salt.

I personally got an iPhone 5 because all the desirable Android phones have huge screens which make them too big for my liking.
