no sign up fee at the moment, I think it's 80$ for two of us...seems pretty decent. There is one .5 miles from my work, and 3-4 miles from my house, which is not bad if you ask me.

Anyone use Lifetime and think it's worth the price you pay over say YMCA?

Me and the GF could stand to tighten up a bit..and rock climbing is always fun!

I was thinking of going 3 times a week or so, running all 3 times (unless it's nice out then we run around the lake with our dog)...upper once a week, lower once a week, then mix it up on the third day?

In high school I did about 5 weight lifting classes, haha...as many as I could, it was fun, I got the basics down, but I have not actually lifted in a few years.

all I plan to do is count calories, keep it under 1800 or so a day.

EDIT : I would probably get 20$ or so off per month with my insurance too....I think she may as well.

How big of a guy are you? Keeping it under 1800 calories is not really advisable for most people. When I was cutting at 160, I was still taking in 2000-2200 calories.

Lifetime is by far the best globo gym I've been to - I was a member here in Tempe from July of last year up through February. The place is always clean, the staff is courteous, the equipment's top-notch...well worth the extra $25 or whatever I spent over LA Fitness (right down the street). I think rock climbing's extra though, so you might want to look into that. The extra cost wasn't worth it to me - I have a rock climbing gym near my workplace (which is currently close to home).

I say you go for it, try some classes, do some swimming, on top of all the usual workouts.

I actually just switched yesterday from the YMCA to Lifetime. There's $0 enrollment fee, but there's still an $85 administrative fee they'll charge you. It's $50 a month for me, and I love it since there's no contract. The facility itself is state of the art, I mean leaps and bounds better than my Y was. Not a bad price IMO for all that. As for rock climbing, all the LifeTimes in the Chicago area include it in the membership EXCEPT for the one I go to. They have Vertical Endeavors which is a totally separate company doing it. So I would call and ask if yours includes it or not since I have no idea where you live.

We had a tour actually, and asked a bunch of questions like this . The platinum includes rock climbing.

It's 80$ for two of us, the platinum membership which includes everything but onyx peopel get (the business crap that we do not need) , so we do get to rock climb.

It'll just be hard for us to get into the swing of going to the gym at LEAST 3-4 times a week...as she has school, plus full time work. I have full time 8-4, plus my side job .

I do not plan to get hardcore into it, just spend 30-60 minutes at the gym 3-4 times a week.

I am 6 foot 200lbs at the moment. We are not 100% sure what type of workouts we should do, or what we should eat/not eat...I will probably read that sticky and stick to it. She really wants to lean up like she used to be.

Yeah, man, at 200 pounds, your BMR is way higher than 1800 calories. You need to keep your calorie intake above that (BMR = basal metabolic rate = resting caloric burn) or else your body will react by dropping your metabolism and you'll feel like crap. You'll probably need to take in something closer to 2200-2400 calories while cutting. You might be able to go for 2000, but any lower wouldn't be good for ya. And the sticky will help. If you don't find answers to your questions there, feel free to PM me.

yeah, i'll have to get into the whole watching what you eat and counting calories business again.

What do you mean by cutting? Slang for working out/lifting?

Cutting refers to the act of losing fat. That's when you put yourself in a caloric deficit and try to decrease your body fat %. Cutting is the opposite of bulking. Bulking is when you put yourself in a caloric surplus to try to gain muscle.

we just went through the same decision. Lifetime was about $50 more a month for our family than the Y. The Y actually has more facilities (I think it is one of the largest in the world). We also have a Y Express about .5 miles from our house that is great for quick workouts.
