Are there any CRT monitors that don't weigh so much and would be easy to take to LAN parties? I don't want to buy an LCD, too expensive.

the picture tube has lead or some other really dense material to absorb electrons/ radiation

then u got the glass on the front which is heavy

if u want light and portable LCD is the only option

25ms won't be thrilling for gaming, plus i have no experience with CTX.

hold out a little long, LCD prices are still taking a dump. get a high quality 15".

Heh heh didn't notice the response time, do you guys have any suggestions for monitors? What response time is good for monitors, 16ms?

I just noticed that there are tons of 17" monitors on newegg with 16ms response times that are very cheap. Are these good, what else do I have to look for in the monitor?

Is there a catch?

25ms is decent and will play your games with miminal ghosting. It's just that some of you are very picky. Look for BenQ models as they have plenty of 16ms models and are pretty cheap.

CTX is big is Europe and Asia, they just haven't penetrated the American market.

One reason why it's cheap is it doesn't have DVI, a personal must for me. But if you're on a budget, you can't be too choosey.

If you were too choose between this CTX and that Samsung you linked, I'd choose the Samsung. Cheaper too

15" seems a bit too small, so I want this Samsung:
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...24-001-158R&depa=1 in the pictures it looks like the screen is slightly tilted back, my friend has an LCD like that, and its really annoying how you can't make it completly vertical could I adjust this monitor? And since its refurbished and OEM, what cables will I need to buy? Do you guys think its safe to buy monitors refurbished?

LG Flatron L1710B... 17", DVI and VGA, 16ms response time. Couldnt be happier with a new monitor including zero dead pixels.

It was £260 here inc next day delivery. Its bound to be cheaper in the US and perhaps within your budget. Worth considering IMO.

^Theres a silver version of that monitor on newegg but its 350, I'll consider it if there are no good 17" monitors that are cheaper than it.

NEC has a new line of LCDs the 1935 and 1735 series. Good 16ms LCDs. The 17" is about 450 and the 19" is about 600-650.

I know it is more than 300 you want to spend, but at least a 17" LCD is worth the money.

My 19" dinosaur flaked out yesterday morning. I had to go out and search for a monitor. Settled on the 1935nxm for 600 after a rebate at CompUSA.

not for under $300...

seriously though, if you're looking to spend around $300-350 i'd rather get a better quality 15'' rather than a 17''.
