I was thinking of picking up a Lightscribe burner. I noticed Verbatim only makes DVD+R media. I checked elsewhere and it seems it is only available on DVD+R.

I need to reproduce a DVD production I am working on and I've read where DVD-R is the most compatible with set-top players.

I'm afraid to burn my production to DVD+R media because of compatibility reasons. Should I be worried?

You shouldn't be worried about + or -, really. The likelihood of you encountering a DVD player that doesn't like + is rare nowadays.

What you may want to be worried about though is the fact that LightScribe isn't likely to ever really take off.

Unless they bring media prices way down & actually get decent amounts of stock & variety out, & they improve the ridiculously long labeling time, i don't see it going too far.

First off, -R is irrelevant these days. +R works in pretty much everything and if the drive supports bitsetting then it will work without worries.

As to labels, it depends on the draft quality. Best you're looking at is 30 minutes while draft mode is about 15 minutes and there's a setting in between at 20+ minutes. That's of course assuming you're using a relatively simple design, times can increse drastically for complex designs or be slightly lower for just text. To get a really good looking label though you really have to burn the label twice if you want it nice and dark. Lightscribe at this point is an interesting idea, no more. In the coming months new media will be coming out that will halve the label burn time which should make the concept much more palatable.

I know this is a little late but it can take anywhere from 2 mins for a simple label to 30 mins at most for a very complex label.

Yeah considering how slowly the media is coming.

It's now a month later...does anyone know if the DVD media has made it out anywhere?
