18 min to burn a plain text label on a disc is kind of ridiculous. How long would a full picture take? :|

At highest resolution - about 30 minutes per disk. No way to speed it up much except to use lower res/darkness and less info.

That is why I use 3 Lightscribe burners - that makes it produce three copies in the same 30 minutes.

I can't imagine anyone using LS much at all - I've always said it was another useless fad. Maybe someday they'll come up with something that's actually practical... There is some other inkjet now that can print on CD/DVD OOB besides Epson. I know the Euro Canons can, but I think this new one that gets around Epson's patents is an HP.

The labels are very clean. The discs are very sensitive to writing with a laser though. I wonder if they would darken if left in the sun.

Now what was truly a fad was disc T@2 - where the label was on the unused part of the disc.

That would be the least of the problems. Disks left in the sun here would become unusable by warping. I have had that happen with disks left in the car for extended periods. My experience with LS is that the image tends to fade slightly over time.

We now have "enhanced LS." Disks now come in different colors, and the image burns darker. (Not faster!) They are very good for media provided to 3rd parties - they look very professional and are easy to produce. Direct inkjet labels are better and faster in someways, but require special printers. Life is full of trade-offs.

I've had discs that had their active area destroyed exposure to sunlight - filtered sunlight. The polycarbonate was not physically warped at all. If heat affects it (like thermal paper) then extended exposure to high temperatures (like leaving them in the interior of a car) could degrade the printing as the contrast starts to fade.

Every LS disc I've burned has had the label turn to powder within a few months. I shudder to think what the inside of my car's cd changer looks like.

I tried Lightscribe but I have found a good 'ol Sharpie to be more effective and much faster.

Sharpies are great for personal use, but for delivering professional looking media to clients, they suck.

I would like to bet that lightscribe would be more successful if it was compatible with ANY disc and not specific to special LS discs.

Not to drift far off topic with the direction you are taking it BUT>>> It really depends on the intentions of the girl. If the girl is trying to be a hooker then the scenario/premise you posted would actually be ideal for her. So moral of the story...if LS technology is trying to reach a broader demographic or be utilsed more, then not restricting it to only special LS discs (not just fking guys she likes as you so eloquently put it) would be a good source of a better metric for SUCCESS!
