Like a Knife In Your Ear...ahhh, The Delta Screamer

I took a look around, but couldn't find any specific instructions on this, so I'm posting. Sorry if this had been run into the groung allready.

I have a GlobalWin WBK38 with a delta screamer. I simply can't take it anymore, but I love the heatsink and have put time into lapping it. So, I want to throw another fan on it to replace the Delta. I want to lose 0% effectiveness though, as my system cannot afford a loss. I'm close enough to my temp limit during full load as it is.

Anyhow, what I'm looking for is not only a suitable replacement fan, but also some instructions on this particular HS and how to remount a new fan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm sure I could figure it out by myself, but I'd have to order the fan first before I found out if it would fit or not. Thanks guys and girls.

there is simply no way you are going to get zero performance loss with reduced sound. There are ways to get to close to the same performance with minimal loss though.

I wouls check out websites like 2cooltek, coolerguys orsidewinder for sor some decent 60mm fans with a low decibal rating. I dont know if this is possible or not, but if so, you can also try mounting a 80mm fan to the heatsink, which can give you the same performance with lower noise, although some of the air it is blowing will do nothing as it is bigger than the heatsink itself. Maybe someone who has the heatsink can tell you if it is possible.

haha true, or go to a larger heatsink like the ALPHA 8045, but he said he wanted to keep his current HS.

then you can tell him to forget it, there is no way you can lower your temps without using a more powerful fan while keeping the same hs, unless he didnt use any thermal grease or his thermal grease isnt as2 he can get some and use a less powerful fan. but the fan is the most essential part of the hsf combo.

Sorry for the late reply here guys...well, what are you guys trying to say? RPM's are the only thing that matters? I love the HS, and I've done work with it so I'd rather not pay a bundle to get one I'm going to have to work with again. On top of that, I use as2 and I have relatively good airflow in my case(this needs some more work though). There has to be a less noisy fan out there that at least delivers near the same performance as the Delta...

I'll check those websites and see what they have to offer. Thanks for the links.

About going to water cooling for noise control. Isn't that a myth for most water kits? I mean most require a 120mm fan and while they won't have the vacuum cleaner type sound of a 60mm Delta, 120mm fans are still pretty loud. There are no 120mm fans that come close to 30 decibels or less. Quiet normal room dB is I think supposed to be 26dB. For complete noise control I think it'd be better to get an oversized HS like the PAL8045 and mount a low flow Panaflo or Pabst fan to it.

how about your case ventilation? what kind of case do you have? I believe it would be possible to put a quieter fan on the heatsink if the case had good airflow. Thats assuming that you don't already have an awesome case.

that may be the extreme side of what you want to do.. but a good quality case could make the difference.

while the dba rating are around 30, or so, a 120mm panaflo l1a is enough cooling for the radiator. about the dbas now, dba is measured in how loud a sound is. but it tells nothing of how that sound sounds like. for instance a delta emits a high pitch hair dryer sound, at loud dbas thats why you cant stand it, while a panaflo emits a very low sound that is not very noticable to the human ear, but it emits it at 26-30dbas therefore you cant hear it. and its 120mm puts out a lot of cfms

gergor about your fan problem you can try a fan adapter and attach a larger fan to your heatsink, this would provide more cfms for a lower dba. but its not gareentee you will get your temps tho. i just thought of this, why didnt i think of this before? haha

I just checked one of those out on one of those sites. Looks good, but I also read somewhere that the WBK38 has that fan locked in pretty good, so getting it off might be more trouble than it's worth. I'm going to look further into this option though.

Well, ventilation could be better, but it's not bad. I don't have cables in the way as they ae neatly tied to the sides and bottom of the case. I could use a few more fans though, I'm only using two right now, but I wanted to get a quieter fan on my HS before I threw more fans into my case. I didn't want to eliminate my HSF problem to find that some case fans were also too loud.

I'm going to check how difficult it will be to remove that delta tonight. Then I may get one of those adapters for a 80mm fan to put on it.
Thanks guys.

I am not sure, but I think there's a way to attach an 80mm fan to the WBK/FOP seriess without having to buy an adapter. I think you have to bend the clips or something. I am not really sure though. But it can be done.

Buy a swiftech MCX 462 here and then get a panaflo L1a or M1a 80mm to put on. This will get you better cooling than your current setup, and will produce less than 25 dB.

Well, I just gave in and ordered a pal 8045 with three sunon 80mm fans. One for the HS, the rest in the case. Hope that does the trick. I figured why mess with the wbk38, when I should just replace the whole damn thing at once. Thanks for all the help guys.

I have an enermax adjustable fan on my 8045. Works great! I can adjust the fan up or down to get the best cooling to noise ratio. I have mine set at about 1/4 speed. Cools great and is very quiet!

I was looking at that enermax fan also, but unfortunately they didn't have it on the site where I got a good deal on the Alpha. Might be a future upgrade tho, depending on how much I like these sunon's.
