Gamespot would be a good start, they have old reviews in their "classic consoles " section

My Dreamcast has this nasty habit of rebooting halfway through a game, I figured out it has something to do with the stupid door hinge up top, it keeps thinking someone's opened the top. Then again occasionally I think it just overheats and reboots.

GRR!!! Probably has something to do with it running Windows CE =P I opened it up to clean out any possible dust to see if it was overheating, and it was clean as hell. *sigh*

My NES died a crappy death too, it just stopped loading games properly, and the only way to get them to load was to sort of jimmy a piece of paper in so the cartridge wasn't in the full "down" position but halfway between when you insert it, and before you push it all the way down. Even then the stupid thing shows lots of streaks across the screen(but it's playable if you don't care about annoying streaks). No amount of cleaning could fix this, very annoyed at this =( but never had enough money to go and get it fixed.

*sigh* I wish I knew how to fix this stuff! My Apex AD-800 player died too and I *KNOW* it's just a simple power problem since it still plays *some* DVDs(Specifically South Park Season 1 on DVD for some reason) but I don't think the laser has enough power, plus the front LCD display is really dark like it's not getting electricity. Probably a busted capacitator from taiwan or something that blew up. Of course I have no idea how to fix it.

EDIT: Hah it seems I was right about the capacitator blowing since I just looked at the Nerd-Out forum on this player and there's a thread about capacitator C30 blowing. And Apex apparently doesn't give a crap.

Does anyone know where I could get a new dreamcast, I know they arent made anymore, but I was wondering if there is some place that has an extra stock of em. Ebay prices are tooo expensive for a "new" one. I would get a used one from ebworld but I dont know of the condition of it.

TekDemon, u can buy a 12 bux part for ur nes to make it run like new again

DC and Soul Caliber rocks, go Astiroth! I think half.com is a good, cheap place to buy used games for any console, check epinions.com for reviews too

Too expensive? I'm watching 3 auctions for brand-spanking new Dreamcasts @ $25 each.

I have a new one in the box, and also made in Japan. But, you'd have to pry it away from my cold lifeless hands.

Honestly, if I needed a second Dreamcast to actually play, I would just get one from EB. At $30, you could get a new one if it died. I would still be picky about cosmetics, and I keep returning them until I got a nice clean one. I've seen the way people dirty up their electronics.

TekDemon: (and anyone else having that reboot problem...)

i came across this awhile back and i saved it just in case it ever happened to me. (i have 2 dreamcast systems) i don't know if it works and you use it at your own risk...

-----------------------------

So you're playing away at some game, and all of a sudden your dreamcast re-sets and returns you to the main Dreamcast menu screen, you choose to ignore it the first time, but after a few days the problem gets worse, and eventualy your dreamcast becomes unplayable.
Why is it doing this???
In nearly all cases the re-set problem is caused by two things, Heat expansion of circuit boards inside the dreamcast and poor electrical conections.

This is what happens inside your dreamcast and how it causes your dreamcast to re-set.

As you know the dreamcast takes mains supply voltage straight into the back of the system, and this voltage (240v europe, 110 v america) needs to be stepped down and converted to a stable DC current that the electronic compnents can handle, As the electricity enters your dreamcast it passes through a step down transformer which reduces the voltage, unfortunatly step down transformers generate heat and as things warm up they expand , the step down transformer in the dreamcast is located on a separate circuit board, the main power board, which is on the left hand side in the dreamcast above the Main mother baord and to the left of the GD rom assembly, this is why the left side of the dreamcast gets warmer.
The main power board is connected to the dreamcast mother board by six aluminium pins, as the power baord heats up it expands slightly putting presure on the pins and over time this will bend them slightly, resulting in a poor electrical conection that will cause your dreamcast to re-set at random.

This is what you do to fix the problem.
You need the following :
a screwdriver with a + blade
some common sense
and make sure that your dreamcast is out of warranty as the following will void it.

1) Disconnect from the mains, remove all
cables from the dreamcast and
any game disc thats inside
2) Remove the modem
3) undo the four screws in the base of the
Dreamcast and KEEP SAFE
4) Remove the lid.
On the left hand side you will see: the
Main power board, with the GD rom
assembly to the right, the input port
Circuit baord at the base, and in the
bottom left hand side you will see the
power on/off switch, this switch is
Connested to the power board with a gray
cable , at the power board end of the
cable their is a white conector, grip
the conecter at the base and lift clear.
5) undo the two brass screws that hold the
Power board down and KEEP SAFE
6) towards the base of the power board you
will see a white conector, it has six
pins sticking out, gently lift the power
board out of the dreamcast and off the
pins.
7) Under the power board there is a clear
plastic insultion sheet DO NOT REMOVE
THIS, IF YOU DO PUT IT BACK.
8) look at the pins and clean any dirt off
them DONT USE ANY LIQUID to clean them
with
9) GENTLY apply SMALL amount of pressure to
pins pushing them towards the back of the
dreamcast DO NOT BEND THEM, JUST APPLY A
SMALL AMOUNT OF PRESSURE
10) Re assemble your dreamcast and the re-
sets should be no more.

The above is a step by step guide to what i did to fix my re-set problem.
DO NOT POWER UP YOUR DREAMCAST WITH OUT THE LID ON, OR YOU RISK A POTENTIALY FATAL (and if not very painful) ELECTRICAL SHOCK.

One accessory I have never found for a reasonable price:

The #$@#$%%# broadband adapter.

I think they made like four of these or something. Dreamcast was just SO close before sega pulled the plug. They were the first broadband multiplayer console, with over a year (or was it 2?) lead on every other console.

Games I rented, and loved but have yet to see under $20:

Hydrothunder: Arcade perfect conversion of speed boat racing game
Guantlet: A lot of fun multiplayer. Other than sports not a lot of action-multplayer games out ther
Power Stone II: did not rent this but played it on the dreamcast monthly CD.

I did not rent but wanted to get and never saw cheap:

18 wheeler trucker pro or whatever the crazy taxi truck game is. Played it in the arcade and liked it but the cheapest I ever saw it was $20.
Typing of the dead. Really neat concept. Course then I would need the keyboard

I have legacy of cain soul reaver. Surprisingly it is the only game besides crazy taxi my wife got into. She would not actually play it but instead look over my shoulder and help me solve puzles. Buy legacy of cain if you like plat form jumping and puzzle solving, in this it excels especialy with the two views of the world, however the "action/fighting" is too easy to be that exciting.

I could not get into resident evil (hate cut scenes) and shenmue was the most boring game I've ever played (my wife and I call it the run around and do nothing game).

tehehehe with all these fixes for my consoles I might finally have all my systems alive again!

By the way, my PSX has been flawless all these years...of course it's like a revision 5 unit(the 5000 series I think) so Sony had plenty of time to work out the kinks...

Never actually play with the PSX anymore though since I sold most of my games when I tried to sell the console(and some ahole deadbeat bidder gave me negative feedback when I gave him some for being a deadbeat...grrr!)

Bah..
