The GOP has no clear leader at the moment, but it wasn't the Dems who invited Limbaugh to be the closing speaker at CPAC this year. He's certainly one of the leading voices, I don't think that's really debatable.

Absent Obama though, I don't know if the dems would have a clear leader either.

Limbaugh really needs to go hiking in California, fall into an abandoned mine shaft and not be able to climb out. At least he will be quiet for awhile until or if he gets rescued. Obama should lead the rescue. I can just see it....Rush sees Obamas face at the opening of the hole, while Obama asks, what did you say about me, Rush? Did the Bush Administration pursue significant executive power? Definitely. Did they overstep their bounds? According to about 75% of the American public, and almost every political scientist and Theorist, absolutely. Was George Bush a fascist dictator? HARDLY. I don't agree with pretty much every one of his foreign (and domestic) policies, but in no way was this man a dictator.

The same goes for Obama. Has he stepped significantly toward merging the polity with the private sector? Unfortunately, yes. Does that make him a socialist dictator? Give me a break.

As for Rush - it's not a question of whether he should or shouldn't be able to say what he says. The real question is, why do a significant number of conservatives allow their views on the world to be influenced by a man without a college education? Perhaps that's telling about the future of the party.

The star commentators like Limbaugh and Hannity seem to do more to hurt fiscal conservatives than anything else. They're all painful to listen to, though I will say that Michael Savage is entertaining. If nothing else, I'm certain that he believes what he's saying which counts for something. The others just sit and spin their wheels, refusing to really think things out. They *all* refuse to listen to other people. I think that's the sign of a useless commentator: If they can't shut up and let the guest/other person talk, their opinion is worth nothing.

Unfortunately we fiscal conservatives are split by a very deep rift in our social views. I don't know when we'll be able to mount an actual campaign and win something, but it's going to be rough going for several years. I have a bad feeling that the economy is going to have to collapse before any positive sweeping changes are made.

I think Obama's bark is worse than his bite. There's a limit to just how much the federal government can do before the people start standing their ground.

I haven't heard Cult of Personality in a long time. It made the thread.
