That was my initial reaction, as well.

BUT....well, think about it. Why a priest? Why not...some corporate exec on a business trip? ...bored housewife? ...oversexed teenager?

Why chose a *priest*, specifically, to be "lusting" after something (given that this is apparently the wording the ad chose - 'Lust')? Especially with the comment from a passerby "Hey, you really shouldn't be doing that".

It's pretty obvious those sex-abuse scandals are what they were 'making a wink at' with the ad to stir up scandal and controversy.

I mean, seriously, it really IS in pretty poor taste.

And it's not like they were sued, or anything. Somebody noted, 'Hey, this seems to be poking fun at something you shouldn't be poking fun at', and, apparently, Lincoln agreed and pulled the ad.

Because the priest THEN gives a SERMON on LUST, which is what the ad is about, and what makes it clever. A businessman isn't going to give a sermon on lust.

Yah, no joke. A priest isn't supposed to be tempted by material posessions, so this ad is suggesting that the car is "great enought to even tempt a priest" to "lust after it."

Pretty obvious connection, and no where in there is there any sort of suggestion of child molestation.

Mind showing me where Catholic priests are prohibited from enjoying material possessions?

Last I checked, material possessions were just fine (although not extensive on their salary), the only thing Catholic priests are SPECIFICALLY prohibited from 'lusting' after are sexual. Which ties with the 'feeling up the car' scene.

Am I the only one who's absolutely positive that 99.98% of the Super Bowl commercials are going to suck this year?

Ever since the FCC laced up their jackboots, everybody's afraid to show anything the least bit controversial.

Oh, and by the way? Your friendly neighborhood Congress is trying to get the maximum fine per incident raised to $500,000. So that record fine against CBS for the wardrobe malfunction bowl could be small change compared to what they could do in the future.

How long do you think it'll be before all those blooper shows get taken off the air? You know, the ones where people accidentally curse on live TV (bleeped out, but still...). There was that row a while back about channels that didn't want to show Saving Private Ryan uncut because they were worried about getting the jackboot to the neck.
