We are talking about LIGHT WEIGHTS!! ULTRA LIGHT AND SLIM LAPTOPS!

Yeah I don't get why some people just can't understand this concept of lightweight...*sigh*

True, true!

I am so glad that some companies are finally getting it that REAL laptop users don't want to carry around a 50lbs desktop.
I absolutely hate those big fat dell, compaq, and HP laptops most people have. What is up with that?

VIA's specs say that the current C3 processor is about 20% slower than an equivalent Celeron, so it's not a very fast machine. This notebook is apparently using a derivative of VIA's mini-ITX EPIA M-9000 motherboard/cpu combo (see www.mini-itx.com...the ultimate novelty-project motherboard) except it doesn't have TV-out. Which is too bad, because if this laptop has the same chipset as the EPIA M-9000, then there's MPEG hardware video decoding on-board.

If you don't mind waiting, VIA has a new version of the C3 processor (Nehemiah core, as opposed to the current Ezra core) that they claim will be about 20% faster than an equivalently clocked celeron, at about 1/5 the power consumption. It was supposed to be out this spring, I believe. It will start at 1 ghz, so I assume Lindows will then put out a new version of their laptop.

And yes, this is supposed to be compatible with any distro of Linux and with Windows.

Does anyone know the power consumption on these? AFAIK, they have tablets based on this processor as well but i can't seem to find any info on battery measurements.

Battery life should be way better .... but it of course depends on what kind of battery they put in that baby.
If it's a 8-cell LiIon battery it could probably go for 3+ HOURS (maybe even ~5) but I don't think so ...
My guess it's around 2.5 hours.

On some of the benchmarks i saw the C3 1GHz was about as fast as a PIII 600MHz Mobile CPU
That's, what's under the hood of my current laptop so I don't see it as a great "upgrade".
Although I really like the form factor .... SO SMALL!!! SWEET!!!

Of course, a C3 would require less cooling than a PIII so a notebook built for it would probably include less as well. In other words, you might have to deal with overheating issues if you change the processor. I like the concept, but I think I'll wait for some reviews.

I wouldn't blindly order one of these with that assumption. The cpu could be integrated as opposed to socketed. It wouldn't be much fun trying to upgrade if that was the case!

But, if anyone wants to take the plunge and find out, report back with the results!

AFAIK the CPU is always integrated on these Eden setups. They aren't that fast. Don't expect a portable gaming monster. But for wanting a laptop to do normal e-mail, internet, type papers, do work, etc, it seems like a good deal. I'm pitching this to my boss.

Just in case anyone is interested, I just got a reply from one of the shops that are selling these. These lappys are based on the Ezra c3 core, not the Nehemiah. Nehemiah looks to me to be a big improvement (more pipeline stages, a full speed fpu). The company states, "the ones based on nehemiah will be available soon, no released date yet."
