About to drop the hammer on this via Direct2Drive, is it worth playing now with the new update and private servers? Thanks.

Wow, I haven't played L2 for a long long time now. I quit because the North American/European community for MMO's is like the worse community ever. A bunch of whiners.. it makes the game not fun. My information btw, is over a year old, so a lot of things probably changed.

The Asia-region community on the other hand is totally different. FAAAR better.

If you do play, avoid Server 3 (Kain) like a plague.

The game is extremely hardcore. The game gave me the most rush of any MMO i've played, but aside from that, it's a endless treadmill. The art and mob designs are probably the best I've ever seen in any game, but again, it takes years, literally..YEARS of constant playing (min 5+ hours a day) to get to where you want to have fun and compete (since the game's been out awhile, it's hard to start new).

You can always just buy adena from ebay like 90% of the people in the server (i'm serious.. people make 100k/yr US dollars selling adena. My friend was a middle man, and he made $200-$500 a day), and that will expedite things a ton for you.



Oh..wait, I just read that you're going to play on private servers. then just do it. The private servers, although not nearly as fun and engaging as the pay ones, is a great way to see what the game is like. what makes this game fun is the crazy castle sieges where you see thousands of players on your computer screen that are either defending or attacking a castle.

The game is extremely frustrating because it takes months to get so-so gear, and then when you die, you have a chance of dropping the gear, or when you pvp and die, again, not only do you lose a day to 1 week's of leveling grind, you have a chance to drop your gear.
