For example, in General Hardware, often people don't describe specifically what they're talking about, but instead just post links to show it.

Often the links are very long, and when posted, an elipse "..." gets substituted into the url, so the link can't be read. Even looking at the page source (the html code for the AT page), the url still can't be read.

Other times the link is embedded into a word.

In either case (display of url with "..." and display of a word embedding a hyperlink) the LINKS DON'T OPEN in Firefox or IE.

What's the solution?
Thank you.

Please provide some examples. The ellipsis only appears in the link description that you see, not in the actual link. I just went to General Hardware and clicked on a some links I found with an ellipsis and some with word titles and all worked fine using IE8.

Example thread (picked solely because I just happened to be reading it right now, but the situation is same in other threads too)

Not one of the links in the OP will open in either Firefox or IE.

When clicking any of the links, the browser's URL address window seems to indicate some sort of handoff being performed, where a long url containing words something like "dynamite media" momentarily flashes, seemingly attempting to hand off to the true URL. The handoff does not work.

Speculation: Maybe it's a DNS issue, with "dynamite media" failing its attempted DNS lookup. Maybe vBulletin uses some non-standard DNS service that's wacky or something?

Anyway, this example is merely one illustration of a much wider GENERALLY prevailing problem.

Go join [thread=2144596]the club[/thread]. They work for me just fine, but certain types of ad or script blocking can cause problems. I had problems with some links at one point when I blocked all DoubleClick URLs.

I'm on FF 7.0.1 & when i click on the 1st two links FF warns me that the page is trying to re-direct me to another page.
But that how i have it set in FF.

If i click on the "Allow" button it will go to Newegg.

Well ALLISHOLM, THANK YOU for replying! What I can add is that,

a) I want to look up links some guys post, but can't because

b) the
vBulletin "dynamite media" thing that flashes momentarily (look quick, blink and you'll miss it) in the url address window fails every time, yet on rare occasion it does work

BUT

c) We hapless users can't even copy the urls manually and paste them into a browser window because a portion of what each and every url says is obliterated by an elipse ( . . . ).

Even when you look at the raw html code behind the displayed page, in the raw html code every linked url is partially obliterated by an (...)

d) especially in the tech forums (where I have an opportunity to learn useful things) more than in other forums, people frequently don't actually say what they mean out in words, but merely point to their meaning with a url. Some people write a description with the url, and in such cases the description can be copied and used to search outside AT. Lotta guys just flat don't, like the OP in the example I gave above.

e) OH WELL that's life out here in the country and life is GOOD!

f) don't have depth of knowledge to diagnose what's wrong, but I nominate the suggestion that it may be a DNS issue, don't really know.
