Wait, I thought someone just said earlier that this model, unlike the Belkin, does not beep when you switch console. Is this not the case? Or are you referring to some other beeping? Thanks.

The linksys KVM definitely does not beep.

The belkin SOHO/E-SERIES beeps. Like you need a loud beep to tell you you've switched computers. Stupidest feature and endless source of irritation for me and my wife (I have this KVM in the family room where we hang out).

Cables are about 4 feet. I think this is a good thing as my computers are side by side. Actualy wish the cables were a little shorter.

If you are undecided between this and the low end belkins get this switch. $35 shipped with cables is incredible. All you are getting extra by buying a belkin is a very poorly designed KVM.

So I just bought a Labtop from staples (HP 1210) and it only has USB ports on it (NO PS/2!!!) and I need a KVM switch to connect it with my desktop. Since this does not have USB, I have a few possibilities, if you guys have any experience with this sort of thing, please respond:

Option 1:
Buy this KVM (Still available at buy.com) and get PS2 to USB converters. BTW this kit comes with the VGA cables too right?!

Option 2:
http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/cs112u.htm
This KVM has USB connections to both computers and also serves as a USB hub. Only thing is that I don't think it comes with VGA cables (but does include the usb cables). It is available for ~$50 on most sites, some with free shipping.

Anybody use the Hawkings KVM? Thanks! . . .

Yup all 3 cables are molded (Keyboard, Mouse, Video).

Why do you need a kvm to connect to your laptop? I understand using docking station but a kvm? You would need to plug and unplug each cord everytime you move the laptop! Plus the laptop comes with a nice screen already and the keyboard is pretty usable. I would just spend the money on a usb mouse.

Another very good usb kvm is the IOGEAR ones. They are really nice but pricey.

So, I've seen this thread keeps coming up many times...I've been kinda interested in it, because here at the dorm room, I have my main pc and my dreamcast. I have a vga adapter for the dc, so I can plug the monitor directly into it, it looks amazing. Unfortunately, I would have to keep unplugging the monitor from the back of the pc and over into the adapter...thus the KVM looks better and better.

It looks like everyone's really liking this kvm...so there's no signal degredation at high resolutions with this thing? The dc only needs 640*480, but the pc I usually have running at 1280*960 or higher...should it be okay? Also, does this only switch when you do a key combination, or is there also a manual switch on the box?

Ordered mine. Just brought home another machine tonight and was thinking about running to best buy or somewhere to get one. I lookat at all the local stores' web sites, and thought $99 seemed high, especially if I needed cables too, decided to check out AT and BAM! I'm out only $35. Perfect Timing. -TAL

There is a switch on front of the box

there is no way to change the ctrl ctrl keyboard combo for switching computers (luckily I love this feature!)

Dang had not thought of my dreamcast. Maybe should have got the 4 port version!

Course I don't have the VGA adapter... where did you get yours????

You can usually still find Dreamcast VGA adapters at Electronics Boutique for around $12.

Got mine on Friday! I love it. Works great and I have both my machines running at 1280x1024. ( I know I know, it's not a "standard" res... ) Both computers looks great, no ghosting whatsoever, and I'm using my Logitech Cordless iTouch Keyboard and mouse. (PS2 of course) I was thrilled when I got it up and running, makes my life a heck of a lot easier. Thanks again for the post on this. My buddy is rushing to the web site now to order up one for himself after he saw mine. -TAL

PS: MadCool, and some of you others, you might want to read the "Stickied" post at the top of Hot Deals right now....... You are NOT suppose to be asking for coupons I believe. No biggie for me, but I understand that some away time from AT is the result..... Just FYI.

Placed my order on Octobr 16 with standard S & H.

SHIP date keeps being pushed out - now October 28 for the KVM, November 5 - November 12 for my filler item to get over $35 ( 1-pack CD-RW Media 650MB 74min).

Is it me, or does Amazon seem to take FOREVER in shipping items they CLAIM are in stock.

FYI

If you are planning on hooking up IBM systems to this KVM switch, make sure you read the manual. Basically, I have an IBM NetVista (desktop) and an IBM ThinkPad T20 with an attached Port Replicator that I connected to this switch. As the manual stated, IBM systems have problems when you connect BOTH the mouse and keyboard. My mouse would not work correctly or not at all (it was a regular ps/2 mouse). After about 2 hours of playing around with drivers, etc, I finally tried the solution mentioned in the manual; I clipped off Pin number 6 on my keyboard cable, restarted both machines, and my mouse worked perfectly. Again, read the manual and try at your own risk.

Otherwise than that, I pretty happy with it (although I've only used it for a few hours)

That is very true....I ordered a computer science book from them that they claimed was 'in stock' (I was going to save a lot of money compared to what the campus book store charges for the book), and I have since TWICE had to agree to a later ship date...I originally ordered it...late August I think? Still no sign. But, I bet you can still order the book from them. Good thing I was able to get the book from a friend who had already taken the class.

Anyway, to be more on topic...I think I'm about ready to pick this KVM up, since I think I might be building another computer, and if not, it'll be for the Dreamcast.

Linksys CS is pretty useless.

One of my PCs does not have PS/2 ports, so I am using a PS/2 to USB converter for my Logitech USB wheel mouse.

For some reason, the computer with the USB connection does not see the mouse - only the keyboard. Linksys claims that I have a software driven mouse, which is not compatible with the KVM switch. If that is the case, why is it working on the other computer through the switch?

I realize this is OT, but I would appreciate a suggestion.

Nope...this is just a KVM switch, stands for Keyboard, Video, and mouse. It lets you use the same keyboard, monitor, and mouse, but have them go to two computers....so instead of needing two keyboards and etc., you just use this switch and switch between computers. To have three computers on two network connections, you'll need a hub or a router.
