Linksys BEFSR41.. keeps dropping my connection :(

I have a BEFSR41 Linksys Router 4port switch

Its connected through Adelphia Power Link Cable modem.

two computers are connected through the router. Mine #1 and my dads #2

Ive had this setup running for about 2 months. Ive had no troubles but recently its been dropping my connection, I noticed this when I was playing cs... it would Freeze me! eventually dropping me out (server timed out) also when browsing I frequently have problems with pages not loading on first try. My AIM disconnects;reconnects. ARGH!

I finally got sick and tired of timing out while playing cs so then I proceeded to disconnect my router and connect my computer directly from my cable modem.. and since I have made that arrangement its been working flawlessly..

Is this a defective router? or did I misconfigure something? I have double.. triple checked all cables being firmly connected in the ports..

Have you updated the router firmware to the latest version? I had problems with dropped connections last summer using the firmware that was current then, but after updating it both my BEFSR11 and BEFSR41 have worked flawlessly. If your router is a recent purchase (within the last few months) it might be using that old firmware that had trouble with dropping connections.

I just started having problems with my router with in the last month (I've had it since July). One of the ports no longer works and my connections keep getting dropped. And I do have the latest firmware.



I'll be calling linksys tomorrow for a replacement, it's a good thing I kept my receipt.

also ive had this router from way back.. like 2 years ago ? I got it from the staples deal

would this still be eligible for a replacement if mine were to defective.

I also got mine from the staples deal but it was in June. The router is warrantied by Linksys for a year so if you are passed that you are out of luck, also you must have proof of purchase.

grrr - I just bought one of these routers off a guy on here to use w/ my new RR connection and I had connection problems from the git-go. before I got the router I was fine and now that I'm not using it anymore, I'm fine, but when I tried to use the router I couldn't go much longer than an hour or two without losing my connection. I would have to power cycle the modem and restart the pc to get back on and boy isn't that fun to do every hour or so.

- incidentally, I was also having all kinds of problems with file sharing between two pc's both running xp home, despite running the "home network wizard" and even using a "network setup disk." I could see the shared folders in "my network places," but if I tried browse in #1 from #2, it would tell me that I did not have authorization and if I tried to browse #2 from #1, the explorer would just crash.

???

do the two of these add up to a burnt router? or is the first possibly due to old firmware and the second a config issue? I would hate to have to contact the guy I bought this from and tell him that it was dead, but I'd hate even more to be stuck w/ a dead router...

I'm also having new found problems with my Linksys 41 router.

Strange thing, sometimes it cycles the front panel lights from bottom to top ever sec or so. Then sometimes Win2k pro will tell me the lan is disconnected/lan is connected ever 2 seconds or so. Then it will work for an hour straght just to mess me up.

This is on a ADSL Bellsouth/Alcatel speed touch home/Win2k setup. If this router is screwed, I'll look elsewhere for a new one. And of course, mine is just out of waranty.

Anyone have any ideas for a new 4 port/ADSL thats better in the same price range?

I?ve had my connection drop a couple of times. When @home was my provider I never had a problem with dropped connection but since the change over to InsightBB, (which uses ATTBI and dynamic IP?s) it?s happened. I noticed it seems to happen when the DHCP lease expires and the router try?s to grab a new IP address and there?s a lot of activity like downloading, playing games, etc. Simple fix for me is to unplug the router for a few seconds when it happens but that can be a pain if you lose your settings.
