Linksys BEFSR41 router new firmware bug?

Has anyone had trouble using tracert behind the linksys BEFSR41 router with the new firmware 1.42.3? Block Wan request is disabled, but tracert still times out. Tracert used to work with ver 1.39a of the firmware.

Also MSN messenger ver 4.6 now periodically logs off with the latest firmware while everything else stays connected. Is this occuring for anyone else?

Many versions of firmware for routers that run NAT (not just home routers, but business-class routers for things like DSL) block traceroute when they have NAT configured. Usually with newer firmware they fix it so traceroute works. It may be that when Linksys made the new firmware, they changed something to disable it again.

As for MSN messenger.. I recently updated the firmware on my BEFSR41 and messenger stopped working on my sister's computer. Other than it being fun to piss off a sister, I installed Trillian and MSN worked that way.

It wasn't that MSN would disconnect in her case.. it wouldn't connect at all. Typing in the login credentials and clicking the logon button did nothing. Weird..

1.39 is very good. Unless you use ZoneAlarm pro, why upgrade? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

i was using 3.9 till 1.42.3 came out. I wanted UPNP support so i could transfer files via msn messenger without having to expose my computer via enabling DMZ mode on the router.

So has anyone else been experiencing problems with 1.42.3?

The traceroute problem is a known bug. Linksys will fix it in the next release. I'm not quite sure why it doesn't work now. But apparently in order to squeez uPnP functionality into the firmware, they were running out of room with only 512kB. I haven't used MSN Messenger though; so I can't confirm that what you see is a bug (it probably is though). I'm having disconnect issues after a few hours on IRC.
