Linksys EtherFast Cable Modem BEFCMU10

I need a new cable modem that is reliable. I previousley had a Netgear that broke within 6 months, and I am now renting an Ambit modem from Charter that drops my signal once in a while. I am really leaning towards this Linksys modem because it will stack nicely with my Linksys Wireless router, so I am looking for any opinions from current and past owners of this modem before I commit to a purchase.

I also like the Motorola 5100, and I have heard some good things about it, but I'd rather have the Linksys just because it will match up with my router in design and stacking ability.

So are there any reasons NOT to buy the Linksys cable modem?

The last one I used would lock up when a lot of connections were open, such as when BitTorrent was going. I wouldn't reccomend it. The Surfboards on the other hand, have been the best cable modems I've ever used.

How long ago did you own it? I see there is a Version 2 out now and perhaps they worked out some kinks they had in previous models?

My main use for the modem besides regular internet usage will be online gaming. I play Planetside right now and I am really getting annoyed when my connection is dropped

I also have a BEFCMU10 (ver 2, btw) and was having the exact same problem. I ended up swapping it out with a Surboard SB5100 and haven't had any problems since.

It was a version 2, just like Heretik's. While it's possible it's been fixed in a newer firmware, since your ISP controls the firmware, it would be a crapshoot anyhow.
