Linksys modem + comcast hell

Any help/ideas/divine interevention would be appreciated

So I've been trying to figure out why I constantly lose my Comcast connection, I have to unplug the modem every couple hours just to get it working.

I have 4 HD tvs that all work fine and get a clean HD picture, but I still lose my internet daily. Is there any test I can run through my modem/router to check signal quality? I'm just looking for any suggestions as I can't figure this shit out, thanks.

Most cable modems have a signal page that you can access, but we would need the model # to tell you that info. Also, you mention you have 4 TV's in your house, I am assuming that means your cable is being split to achieve this? If so thats more than likely the problem. Each tap you split to lowers the signal by as much as 3db possibly more if its a cheap splitter. An ideal solution is to have a drop straight from the pole to the modem, but if this cant be achieved, then take as many splits out of the picture as possible.

Well most houses only have 1 incoming coax connection but yes, as few taps as possible for best signal. If having trouble, just call cable compnay. A tech can test the signal level to the modem and try and fix it for you. I did this a few years ago and tech put in a better splitter at the incoming drop in the house and had one going directly to the modem and the rest going to another splitter for the TV's. Worked great after that.

Well, its gotta be the cable. I switched around my splitter config and now some TV's don't get a good signal now. So...any recommendations on a good 6 way coax splitter?

You may want to do a more sophisticated distribution design than that. A six-way splitter will send a sixth of the signal power to each load, down cables of different lengths and possibly to further splits on the load end. Consider a 2-1 splitter, with one leg going to the cable modem, and the other leg feeding a distribution amplifier. If you feed the cable modem an amplified signal, ensure the amplifier is made to couple signal upstream. Also, make sure you have terminations on all unused splitter taps and cable ends.
