Best Buy has(had) a similar deal on a D-Link. I picked up an open box router that was an additional $10 off for a total of $15 AR...but YMMV, I'm not sure if they even have the same price anymore.

Generally, Linksys is one of the cheaper network brand, just like D-Link. But that doesn't mean it's not good products, depending on your need and usage. I'd recommend SMC brand if you're looking for better quality equipement, here's a link to one at outpost

Im using it now. It's the same as their 41 model. Just a steel case and small. I like it better that the bigger one. No problems at all with it.

now i have the dlink 604

the linksys is better than the dlink..

SMC SUCKS... IMO... I had a Dlink 704. Pretty good. Now a own a linksys. I think the more people that have a certain brand the better. Since sometimes it's hard to configure FTP servers with a router. Or other things. Seems even tho the DMZ is set to an IP it still doesn't work. So you need to forward the ports. then again, could be a bad think tons of hackers with the same router. Go figure... Dog bytes the hand that feeds it....

Anyway, here is my take...

Hmm.. ok. You do realize that the D-Link 704 you have and the SMC 4-port Barricade is the same exact router right? In fact, they can use each other's firmware. So, I don't know how you can bash one and recommend the other.

Do you have any noticeable speed decrease through the router? I noticed a reviewer on amazon said that he did...

Can you confirm that this model takes the exact same firmware as the BEFSR41? (for example, try updating to the latest firmware from ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41 or at least show the version)

If it's EXACTLY the same guts as the old one, this sounds like a great deal. However, given that Amazon has the old one for more than twice the cost, I'm nervous that this is a new, "low-cost" model in more than just packaging. I don't care about the case, but I care a lot about the electronics inside...

cmetz.. all entry level counsumer router is pretty much the same, u can't go wrong with this price.

I remember not too long ago router cost ~ $100+

OK, the price went up a little $43.70 (but you can use the 5/35 now and the rebate disappeared.
