I have been trying all night to get a ftp server running behind the router for access from my office.

I have Port Forwarded port # 9863 and from the outside am able to connect, however even though the client is in PASV mode I cannot see a directory listing.
I have not not disabled DHCP as with previous posts I read on the forum people have been able to accomlish this without shutting it down.

Any advice would be appreciated, oh BTW I am running WARftp from a win98 machine.

Thanks

remember that you'll need to forward the ftp-data port as well. in your case that's 9862 (ftp port -1). that's probably what's causing the problem.

I run an FTP too for "personal reasons" and tried it with the linksys router... NEVER got it to work... had an extensive thread here on Anandtehc going, with countless email and ICQ threads too. I don't get it... and if YOU get it let me know... try FXPing... that'll blow your mind more

If you can login its most likely not anything to do with the router. More likely incorrect permissions in the FTP server configuration.

Well it should work **** I think I will re-load the WAR and try muckin with the settings a bit. I mean port forwarding works for other applications so...

I'm using DHCP. I think my buddy is on dmz and it also works fine. Good luck, dude.

btw, linksys has a techsupport number: 1-800-326-7114 ext 2

This is what I've noticed, when your network is using a router and you try to connect to an FTP on a non standard port (just about anything besides 21) it won't let you log on. I've have this problem with win98 and a linksys router.

I've been trying to get Serv-U to work with the Linksys router for a while now. It will work fine for the local IP address 192.168.1.11, but not my public IP. This has nothing to do with the client. I even have this machine in the DMZ. I suppose I could try another FTP program.

SERVER IS NOT LISTENING ON IP 24.xxx.xxx.xx: Trying to use non-existent IP address?

<edit> I tried G6 FTP too...is anyone able to setup an FTP server behind the Linksys router???

7/7/00 6:21:16 PM MULTI IP SETTINGS: No IP defined for server, please check IP settings !

Well I got the ftp to work using Serv U, the trick was to tell the FTP server, using the Home ip button set the IP to 198.168.1.* with a passive IP of 24.64.*.* (or whatever the outside ip is), after mapping the port to 9100 and a additional data port to 9099 (-1 off the ftp server port)it worked like a charm.

I think the original problem was with WAR and its ability to work behind a firewall, or maybe my lack of knowledge as to how to make it do same. Thanks for everybodies help

I'm still not having any luck. I can connect to the ftp server and see a directory listing through my lan but My sister still gets the "no response from server" message. That would have to mean a router problem wouldn't it? I am using firmware ver 1.22 (ver 1.30 totally hoses my port forwarding for some reason) and have port 21 and 20 forwarded to 192.168.1.2 which is the ip of the ftp server.

Would a few of you try my ftp server address and tell me what happens?

I was able to connect to your server,

I found that nothing worked with 1.22, Once I went to 1.3 everything seems ok.However 1.305 fried my router!

Thanks for letting me know

The reason I thought ver1.30 firmware was hosing my port forwarding is because when I'd upgrade to it, I wouldn't be able to log into my ftp server so then I'd flash the router to ver1.22 firmware and then I'd be able to log into my ftp server again. I finally came across this http://www.timhiggins.com/support/linksys_router_help_pg4.htm#servers, so now I know it was working right, the loopback is broken in ver1.30 firmware so you have to use the lan IP to access it. I wish I would have read that about a month ago, sure would have saved a bunch of frustration.
