Linksys router losing internet connection

Greetings all, trying to troubleshoot a router that keeps losing internet connectivity at seemingly random intervals. The router make/model is a Linksys N600 EA2700 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Router purchased in late January. It can seemingly work fine for days and then it will suddenly lose the connection to the net, trying to open any webpage will show "resolving host" in the bottom corner of the browser, then the connection to the webpage will fail and the browser will throw up an error page. After many hours of frustrating troubleshooting I've seemingly narrowed it down to some type of DNS issue. I say this as using the 'ipconfig/flushdns' command at an elevated administrator level command prompt and a router reboot always fixes the issue within moments of the problem occuring. I'd like a more permanant solution however, as having to do this all the time is getting rather irritating.

For background, this problem also happened with an older router, a Linksys WRT54GL that had to be at least 5 years old. That's why I originally replaced that router with the new one mentioned above, as when the problem first started in late December I just figured the router was getting old and flakey and a simple replacement would fix the issue. Since the same thing keeps happening with the new one, I'm not sure what's going on now. The devices normally active on the network are as follows:

2 PCs running Vista - hardwired via cat5
2 Laptops running Windows 7 - hardwired via cat5 (wireless connection possible if unplugged)
3 iPads - wireless of course
1 iPhone 5 - wireless
1 iPhone 6 - wireless

The network used to be working just fine without any issues, the only thing that's changed since the problem started happening is there used to be a second iPhone 5 that has since been replaced with an iPhone 6 in late December (Christmas gift). That's about when it started happening but it was very seldom and intermittent with the old router, since replacing with the new one the problem has slowly started happening more frequently to where it can happen day after day at times. Doesn't seem to be usage based as there have been days with heavy internet usage that have been problem free and days when virtually nothing has happened internet-wise and the next morning the internet connection is down until you do the flushdns procedure I mentioned.

Things I've tried:

- many, MANY powercycles of both the router(s) and cable modem
- reset to factory defaults of the router
- updated firmware on the router
- service call by the internet provider (Time Warner), they blamed the router and I'd tend to agree
- multiple tech support calls to router manufacturer (Linksys) for troubleshooting help and resets

All of these have at least temporarily fixed the issue for varying lengths of time, but the problem always seems to reoccur. So, any ideas on what could be happening here? Something mis-configured in the router regarding working with all of these different devices possibly? Some type of interference by the new iPhone 6 as the problem seemed to start around the time it entered the network? Really not sure what is going on here, hopefully someone reading this has some ideas.

good luck with that, I have yet to see a stable router that works flawlessly without occasional reboots

I have had routers with uptimes of >365 days, not sure what your idea of 'occasional' means.
OP, if you think it is a DNS issue, then, I would try a different DNS server, like 4.2.2.3, or 8.8.8.8 or whatever else.
I haven't used your router, so, not sure how good it is. If it has logs, see what they say when it doesn't work anymore.
It could also be a firmware issue, even if you are on the latest one. You might have to downgrade (if possible) to another version to see if it still happens.

My dad's dlink 655 was acting just like yours is, constantly giving me fits at least once a day. I upgraded the firmware and it's been good. Hasn't needed a reboot since then..

My Asus rt-n16 with tomato has been rock solid for over 3 years. It's on a UPS so it pretty much never get's rebooted. The only time I ever power cycle it is when I install a new firmware.

Hmm, well not very encouraging replies but I'll give some of the suggestions a try. Thanks for the help everyone.

If two people need a car in NYC they might do well with Fiat 500.

If One has....

2 PCs running Vista - hardwired via cat5
2 Laptops running Windows 7 - hardwired via cat5 (wireless connection possible if unplugged)
3 iPads - wireless of course
1 iPhone 5 - wireless
1 iPhone 6 - wireless

"Fiat 500" would not be enough.

First step get something better than Belkin Router (yeah Linksys is currently Belkin).

This might be a good start - http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC68U-Wire...7917775&sr=1-2&keywords=asus+routers+wireless

Use the Asus as the main Router.

Then configure the EA2700 to work as an AP only and connect it with a cable to another good location in the house (you can do the same with the old Linksys too).

Configure the APs so that some of the less important devices (like phones) will only use the secondary APS.

Put the Asus on Channel 11 the 2700 on 1 and the wrt54 on 6.

As for ssid and passwords it is up to you and the way you want Wireless clients to connect.

You have a lot of devices attached to that router!
Because you have so much attached it would have made better sense to buy a gaming router to handle all that extra data you are sending to it.

The 600 series is indeed a very fine router but does poorly on heavy continuous usage.
Constant heavy usage will shorten a routers life over time.

You need a router that is made for heavy usage that will not cook itself in its own heat.
A gaming router is made for that.

I also had a d-link 655 N extreme router and after 2 years it also started needing weekly then finally daily reboots because of the heat generated from so much communication happening in our house. After 4 years i threw it out even after flashing it did not fix the daily reboot issue.

I thought long and hard about these issues and when you really think about it that routers are computers as well and the CPU will heat up. Heat kills.

I bought the Apple AC router and 4 people can stream videos and play world of warcraft and watch HBO go without any issue now. So I am happy.

That Asus router as of last week was violating FCC rules by putting too much power out. Expect a patch to lower the power output.... then people will complain and return them. So if you guys buy this Asus router then just do not ever flash it so it remains fast.
