Linksys Router - WRT54G - $17.99 PM/AR at CC - OD - CUSA

I've got a v3 and Alchemy works just fine on this. Sveasoft says they don't support v3, but that it will work on version 3. Running Firmware Version: Alchemy-V1.0 v3.37.6.8sv.

I went to RadioShack Boulder,CO and picked up a flyer. Went next store to OfficeDepot and they would price match but would not give me the rebate. So I went to CompUSA. They price matched but I had to convince them to give me the rebate forms that printed out. The clerk said that I wouldn't qualify for the rebate anyway(?). Now let's see if the rebates work.

Really? I heard that the only firmware that works on the v2.2 is the HyperWRT and the linksys firmware. At least that's what I read here.

If you've gotten it to work, what version did you use of Alchemy?

Used Alchemy 1.0 - It works fine with v2.2 -- going for over 24 hours now...

I got that version as well.

Has anyone put this device down stream from a switch? If so did you get the internet in plug to work or did you just use one of the other ports?

Sorry to burst your bubble. I thought I could do the same thing.
But the $20 rebate form explicitly excludes price matches from
the rebate. I wound up returning it to BB.

None of the local CC, OD, CUSA would price match and
give me the rebate also. UGGHHH.

The rebate form(s) from CompUSA says only that rebate "will not exceed purchase price". Too bad your CUSA won't pm. Go back and make a scene, threaten to call corporate. Other CompUSA's are pricematching with no hassle at all ! (mine matched the $39.99 price)

man, the CC i went to was anal. they had to call the radioshack in town to make sure that they had it in stock!!!

luckily there are two where i live cuz the first one they called didn't have it in stock but the second one did... whew...

they gave it to me for 47.99 after the price match so after rebate and taxes it came out to be $21.00

still not bad.

I've wanted to play with one of these for a while, and now I have my chance.

I tried the RadioShack PM at WorstBuy and they tolkd me that "since it's lower than our purchase cost, I can only match up to $55." I asked to speak to the Manager and she held the line saying that since the ad says that it was a monthly price...and they only honor weekly prices, she couldn't do it...I was a bit amused.

So then I tried the "reading from the huge sign above her head trick" I read slowly...and explained that a monthly price was just a weekly price that went on for 4.3 weeks. She started to crack...I finally asked to see the fine print that wasn't appearently on the wall behind her that detailed the policy...She said " ok, I can do it this once, but as a policy we don't honor monthly flyers..." I smiled and took my price, thanked her politely and am now writing up the rebates. Hope they come in.

tried at circuit city. the first guy i went through said they won't pricematch the before price and only the final after rebate price. took it up with customer service while reading the sign behind his head. they said the same thing. it's the final printed price. i told them your policy says that it doesn't apply to the rebate price and it's the listed price. he didn't budge.

anyone know another angle to approach this? the wording on the pricematch at CC is a bit gray concerning rebates. it could be read as anything on rebate won't be pricematched or it can be read that the AR price won't be PMd and only the before rebate price.

Ummm, CC employees no longer work on commission, so they were being dicks because they were following policy and didn't want to risk their crappy jobs. Or they were being dicks for the fun of it.

I got the GS today from Circuit City.

RadioShack was on the way, so I stopped by and asked the guy for a monthly flyer.

I walked into CC, and put the flyer and the GS on the counter. The clerk went to her manager, and then when she came back, she apologized for not being able to do the pricematch, because they don't pricematch rebates.

I pointed to the fine print under the RS ad that said "on sale for 69.99 and a $10 mail in rebate", and then re-iterated that I wasn't trying to pricematch the rebate, only the sale price.

89.99 plus tax, minus the price match came to $71 out the door.
$30 worth or rebates to mail in now.

Oh, and the rebates print automatically, just like BB. The employees probably dont know every rebate for every item in the store. ESPECIALLY since they're not comission based anymore.

Well, I returned to the router to Worst buy and went to CC because the BB rebate form says invalid if used with a price match.

I had to do a lot of convincing at CC to get the price match, they were holding tight that since the final price was the same they wouldn't match. Finally wore them down...got it for $49 with $30 in rebates...

BUT...the CC rebate also says that they have the option to reduce the rebate by the price match amount. I'm hoping this slides by.

I got a rev3, Sveasoft Alchemy Final working like a charm, power is boosted and VPN pass-thru works MUCH faster now on wireless (put my MAC in QoS!)
