I have a Linksys WRT54G Router, and a WPC54G Notebook Adapter in my Dell Inspiron 1100. I have updated Drivers, firmware and done just about everything I can Google

I keep getting this on the Linksys utility:

"you are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found"

I seem to have a good connection with my router, just no internet connection

Any ideas?????

Are you on DHCP or manually entering in IP address? Are DNS servers entered in right? What happnes if you open IE (no internet either)?

I havent seen that error before, and I have both. Just something to check first.

I have tried both. How do I check to see if my DNS servers entered in right?

go to start --> run and type in ipconfig /all

if you connect your machine directly to the router, can you go online? if not, then something is wrong with your router configuration. some ISP's require you to hardcode the IP, etc. into your router. otherwise go back through your laptop wireless card configuration - uninstall, reinstall, and update your drivers too.

Thanks. I have my PC connected directly to the router. I have no problem with my PC. Its only the laptop. I would then assume my router is ok.

When I let the laptop obtain an IP address automatically, I get the limited, or no connectivity message from the Wireless network. When I manually enter in the IP address, don't get the limited, or no connectivity message. I just can't access the internet

Do you have any kind of security set up on your router? Or on the laptop card? Your symptoms sound a lot like that's what's happening.

I am a bit of a newb at this. How would I check these settings?

Ok, I'm assuming from your answer that you haven't configured anything with the router.

Check your card by going to Network Places then View Network Connections. Right click on the card and go to properties, and the settings are in there somewhere (I'm on a dialup lappy and I can't recall exactly where so I can't tell you for sure). Look for WEP or WPA and make sure they're disabled.

Other than that, try re-installing/updating the card drivers.

I'll check back when I get to my other laptop at home and can tell you exactly where the settings are.

OH... do you have a firewall?

The router was configured, and my Desktop PC works great. Its just the lappy. This is very frustraing. I have installed, and removed the notebook adapter at least 5 times:roll:

Try disabling all of them temporarily then see if that works. If it does, re-enable them one at a time until you find the one that cuts your connection off and fix it.

^^^^^^^

What he said. However, it sounds like MAC address filtering to me. If it was WEP he wouldn't be able to connect to the AP at all.

Make sure your laptop is getting an IP in the same subnet as the wired PC. It sounds like the router is just acting as a switch and isn't doing DHCP and the laptop is just connecting to it but assigning itself an IP which is in a different subnet.
