Linksys wireless router & 4-port switch - $99 at local Wal-mart

I was at my local Wal-mart today, and saw that the Linksys wireless router with 4-port switch was just lowered to $99. All the routers were brand new in sealed boxes, and they had quite a few, which leads me to believe that this isn't just a regional deal. I didn't pick one up, cuz I wanted to check out comparable prices online first, but I'll be a-getting me one tomorrow.

FYI - it looks like the much faster 802.11a stuff is getting cheap, so there will probably be a lot more of these deals in the near future, as retailers ramp up for the new technology.

Good deal. Hopefully I can find the same in my Wal-Mart.

And to those thinking about 802.11a, most of you won't need it if you're using it for sharing cable/dsl. 11 mbps that 802.11b provides is ample, since cable/dsl provides 1 or maybe (if you're really lucky) 2 mbps. Faster speed may be useful for home networking if you're doing a lot of transfers.

I have a linksys wireless 4 port, and its incredible.
Im in my basement and the signal is great on my laptop!
Just get a good wirless pc card, like the lucent ORINOCO and your golden!

I went to Wal-mart last week, in search of those cheap TiVos that I saw on here. They didn't have any, but hidden in the corner was one Linksys wireless router, with no price. I scanned the price in, and it came to $199. Since my Wal-mart lowered its price, it wouldn't surprise me if others did the same soon. Just cuz yours was $199 today doesn't mean it won't be $99 tomorrow.

You can use any brand as long as it's 802.11b. I'd recommend not getting the Linksys but try to pick up a ORiNOCO brand card. It will work just fine with the Linksys base and have greater range.

I think it was just the 4 port router for this price. The wireless router was probably just in the wrong space on the shelf. If I am wrong, please confirm this and I'll go and buy them all

This might not be price mistake, I got two of BEFW11S4 at local wal-mart for 112 each last week. Went to the other wal-mart and ask for availability on BEFW11S4, it's OOS but shows $45 for the BEFW11S4.
I guess some of the wal-mart are getting rid of these router.

You can also check that some of the wal-mart have Viewsonic E70F for $100.

I paid $169 ($50 GC) for mine at BB when I had to do something cause my cable was going to be in the next day.

Can these be used as access points?? I already have an smc barricade wireless router hooked to my cable modem. I'd like to use this as a WAP to connect with the smc router and enable broadband in other parts of my house through the linksys router's ethernet ports...is this possible??

So you have a SMC7004AWBR ? What you need is some wireless cards for your other computers. Unless I am not following what you are saying.

Checked a Wal Mart in Des Moines just now and they don't even stock it, but they do stock the wireless cards. They had the wired router for $97 I think it was.

If you can get it for 99, GET ME ONE!
