They have these in my area and I have a friend on T-mobile so the buying it as a gift worked like a charm. Would using this as an access point connecting to my existing Linksys router increase the signal strength for a computer located at the current edge of my range?

I went to go buy one and the rep said a 2-yr contract has to be signed.
Yeah you need to go to a corporate owned store if possible, as noted in my OP.Originally posted by: Crucial
reading the thread on slick deals shows that the tmobil stores are regionally owned and operated and that some regional managers are putting the kibosh on the sale of the routers without a contract.

Yes, some of them are dicks. I printed out a map with the closest T-Mobile owned stores (not independent). I started calling and showed up once they confirmed that they had it in stock and they could sell it to me. The first one gave me crap about having to have a 2 year contract so I explained it was an accessory and the guy looked at me and looked at the manager. He had his direct orders and he couldn't bulge. The second and third store I went to did not have the Linksys model. Now when I arrived to the fourth store they had 9 in stock and they didn't think twice about selling them all to me. The pretty girl even helped me taking half of them over to my car since they did not have big bags. This was a couple of weeks ago and I still haven't had time to flash them. But the one I already have works like a champ with DD-WRT.
