Anyway, Tom's Hardware had a review of Power Supplies lately and the Fortron came up in the top 3 as the one with most features and providing the amount of power it's being rated at - if not more.

I have the 300w version and the 5v and 3.3v rail pumps out 200w, it's also pretty quiet and has built-in overload circuit protection. Not bad for a $27 piece of hardware.

I am confused. That article says that the 12v rail is used for powering the CPU. Unless I have been misinformed by everyone on the planet, that is not true. they loose all credibility at that for not knowing that the CPU pulls from the 3.3 and 5v lines. Hell, there is only 1 12v wire on the ATX connector.

If they do not even know that, how am I going to trust them to not screw up the testing of anything, let alone a PWS?

Taken from here

"In case you do not know, you will need to buy a special ATX 12V power supply to support your Pentium 4 CPU. Why? The Pentium 4 requires a lot of electrical power, and because of this, most Pentium 4 motherboards use a new design voltage regulator module that is powered from 12v instead of 3.3v or 5v, as with previous designs. By using the 12v power, more 3.3v and 5v is available to run the rest of the system, and the overall current draw is greatly reduced with the higher voltage as a source. PC power supplies generate a more than adequate supply of 12v power, but the ATX motherboard and power supply design originally allocated only one pin for 12v power (each pin is rated for only 6amps), so additional 12v lines were necessary to carry this power to the motherboard. The fix appears in the form of a third power connector, called the ATX 12v connector. This new connector is used in addition to the standard 20-pin ATX power supply connector and 6-pin auxiliary (3.3/5v) connector. Fortunately, the power supply itself won't need a redesign; there is more than enough 12v power available from the drive connectors. To utilize this, Asus EZ Plug power connector lets you use your existing power supply and eliminates the need to buy a special ATX 12v power supply. Cool."

From what I read here, newer Athlons also require power from the 12V line.
