I think he is right. 99% of people won't ever need 4 cores.
On a related side-note, talk about BS - look how so called "high-speed" memory is pushed. People pay top dollar for DDR-XXXXX whatever memory for a MARGINALLY gain which only shows up in AIDA memory/cache benchmark with no performance benefit whatsoever.
WORSE - so called review sites I checked in the last days are "recommending" such memory...despite in the same review showing it has no benefits whatsoever in real world apps and games.
