Linux 2.6 vs 2.4 for DC projects?

I was just curious as to whether anyone has seen any marked improvement in DC projects under the new 2.6 kernel? I'm tempted to do some testing of my own, having just downloaded the 2.6.0-test7 kernel, but figured someone here might have done so already. I ask because I've heard that they've improved process management, memory management, and multiprocessing.

I think the difference that you would see would be mostly in how well the client does when other things are happening in the foreground. I'm not sure if there is a good way to test this.

I just run Linux in VMWare on my WinXP system, so I'm sorry that I can't do any testing.

Oh, and this kind of sucks, but I just downloaded and compiled test6 the other day, and now I have to get test7?

I haven't seen any benchmarks but my guess would be around the same performance with 2.6 with better multitasking performance. (2.5/6 has some nice benifits for multitasking desktop users performance wise). It may vary by project... no clue.

I've got two identical boxes; maybe I'll benchmark when 2.6 is out.

I ran a little bit of tests with the distributed.net client. This is on a mobile PIII 700. The biggest difference is that the 2.4.21 was compiled for 686 and the 2.6.0-test2 was compiled for 386
