Linux at 20 ... is it invisible, ubiquitous?

I've slowly started using Linux more and more.

It's a great server OS.

Still annoying as a desktop OS. I'll stick with OS X for desktops and for servers Linux is great.

The only thing that is stopping me from converting is Games.. I loves games so much that I am forced to use Windows.

Linux can be a pain at times, but I won't stop using it because I can't stand the limitations of Windows.

Google uses linux for just about everything they do, including all those Android devices that have taken over 50% of new activations for mobile phones. Linux is far from insignificant.

linux is great it's just not for everyone.

I met Linus Torvalds in 2004. I'm happy for him because he gets enough royalties from the name recognition that he doesn't have to do anymore development.

What's funny is that Linux IS great for everyone. Most companies and universities are reaping HUGE benefits from Linux over the Unix counterparts because of hardware and software maintenance costs. You can virtualize linux easier than unix and it's making mobile computing advance faster than it would otherwise because the kernels of those devices can be fine-tuned much easier.

I know what you were saying, but I'm just saying that what Linux did was open a door that HP(HPUX), Sun(Solaris), Digital(VMS), IBM (AIX), and Microsoft wish could be closed.

I use linux a lot more than windows. My home machine is a linux box. I do have a windows machine at work but the first thing I do is open a putty session to do my work in.

As microsoft is unable to keep up with faster development times, I look for people to open up towards a linux OS.

PC sales are falling to the wayside, and smartphones and tablets are posed to take over the market. Sooner or later, people are goign to want the same OS on their home computer as they have on their tablet or droid.

Micosoft used to be the dominating OS, but not any more. Its just a matter of some comapny taking their smart phone OS and porting it to the PC.
