I am setting linux to be a router.
What I intented to do is I'll connect the cable modem on the linux box. The second nic will be connected to a hub, with the rest of the computers.

#1 :
Will I be able to use port 113 on 2 computers connected at the same time?

#2 :
Will I be able to send files, for example by mIRC, or even run a ftp server on a computer(not on the linux computer)?

#3 :
Will I be able to set up a mail server(I have a domain, and I want to be able to host the mail domain on my linux box)?

Thanks

You can only forward 1 port to 1 internal computer. If you forwarded it to 2 computers how would it know which one to send it to?

DCC sends in IRC are tricky but can work, you can run an FTP server by forwarding port 21 to the PC running the server.

Will I be able to set up a mail server(I have a domain, and I want to be able to host the mail domain on my linux box)?

You can have the Linux box do whatever you want with the mail, it'll do it all.

1. Probably not. As far as I have seen, you can only forward a port over to one pc at a time. You MAY be able to forward a port into your network with a masquerading command, but I doubt it would work without an explicit destination.

2. You will be able to run a ftp server behind the firewall. You just need to forward port 21 over to the machine you want to be the server. If your server does not support passive, you may need to forward 20 as well.

I know nothing of IRC... never used

3. You'll need to have someone host your DNS resolution for you. There are a lot of services that will do it for you on the cheap. I heard of some people saying that register.com did it for you if you registered through them.... can anyone verify that?

As for the mail servers and such, you just need to learn how to configure and secure them.

This is correct. They allow you to specify the IPs for your domain name, mail server, subdomains, and aliases. They don't allow you to provide the RRs directly, but unless you are trying to do something tricky with DNS, that doesn't matter.
