Thats why I stay away from Canonical now days. Trisqual and GNewSense don't work well on my machines so I am stuck with debian. If worst comes then I will just walk away from technology and put my effort into perfecting my pottery and masonry.

Are you running an all libre Debian install? If so, I wonder why it works, but the other two don't? I'm happy with Debian. It can be as free as you wish, but they don't make it a major hassle to use proprietary software.

What GUI does Debian run by default? I'm happy with my Kubuntu install but if ever I decide I want to try something else, I may give Debian a try, cut out the middle man basically. I've even been considering going to Debian instead of CentOS for servers, I find Debian has better package selection than RH based OSes too and they're usually more up to date. Often I've run into issues where I need a higher version of a package and CentOS does not have it.

Gnome3 is default, but that's only included as a starter desktop. Debian doesn't really have much of a "vision" for the desktop. It's a very generic distribution, and packages are only included for usability. IOW, every desktop included in the repos is first class citizen, and it isn't tailored to any specific desktop I believe they're considering Xfce for the next release.

I just have the standard debian 7.1 and 7.5 which I have heard the linux kernal has non free parts so I don't think it is all libre. Most of my machines I haven't installed anything non-free and still run the packaged nouveau drivers. My work machine is not so free as it has the proprietary nvidia driver.

trisquel and GNewSense worked but they would only last a few hours before locking up or causing some machines to auto restart.

I plan on trying them again sometime in the fall when i'm not so busy and maybe do more digging into what might have been causing it.

Amazon ads will be disabled by default in 14.10.
For everything else use:
https://fixubuntu.com/

I don't fault Ubuntu for trying to make more money off Ubuntu Desktop. The most important feature is that people can turn off the tracking if they want.

I may seem harsh but but I find them to be a bit deceptive and the fact that they try to put money before freedom bugs me.

Some may say I am paranoid but I dont even trust nvidia drivers when ethernet is plugged in so I run my 3d workstation offline.

The problem is that most people that use Ubuntu don't do anything for the project apart from using it. If you never contribute then I don't feel you have a strong position to complain.

Thankfully they added the ability to turn it of, that's more than you get with Windows. Additionally they have listened to their users and are disabling it in 14.10.

You can't have everything and the Devs at Ubuntu have to east as well.

One can argue Fsf principles all day, but I think Ubuntu had done quite well by treading the fine line between free software and not.

I dont mean to step on anyones toes but The issue I have with Canonical is inconsiderately having auto enabled malicious feature or features especially to people who are unaware.

I agree microsoft and apple are much worst in the fact that you have no option.
I just don't feel i will ever consider Canonical sofware as free or safe imo,so I stay away from them and would encourage others to stay away aswell.

There is certain efficiency that a dictatorship has over a democracy. But it doesn't look like I am going to be applying for Microsoft citizenship anytime soon.

Something about the use of the word "suck" seems disrespectful to me. I think it would be better to address some of the issues as inefficiencies of the democracy model.

Interesting to note, my understanding is that UNIX kind of came about from a dictatorship run by a few very smart people.

"Dennis MacAlistair Ritchie was an American computer scientist. He created the C programming language and, with long-time colleague Ken Thompson, the Unix operating system." Wikipedia

How I learned UNIX getting the basics, thanks to a friend that directed me in that direction: http://storagegaga.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/imag02511.jpg
