What's wrong with hunting? Don't answer, I'll tell you: nothing is wrong with hunting. Now why don't you make yourself useful and go feed a lion.

I have a problem with game hunting for sport. Thankfully, it is very expensive but even so, I'd like to see hunting of this form banned forever.

"A recent CITES scare and a shortage of good Lion hunting areas has resulted in the price of fair chase hunts skyrocketing. Added to this, recent legislation in South Africa regarding the hunting of large captive bred predators has more or less closed down the canned Lion hunts in this country creating more demand than there are Lion hunts.

Expect to pay anything from $40,000 upwards for a good Lion concession in any of the southern and central classic destinations. For the best, like some areas of Zambia, Botswana, and Tanzania, expect to pay from $75,000 upwards of $100,000."

The most majestic cat I've seen in person and pictures is the snow leopard. Such gorgeous coats, huge tails, and the footage of the one in Planet Earth is awesome.

The one at the Milwaukee zoo (back in '97 anyway) would play with people by running along side them in her enclosure.

I respect lions, but I prefer tigers myself. Saw Bengal and white tigers last summer in an exhibit at Six Flags: Great Adventure. Very cool to see up close.

Plus, I was born in Chinese zodiac year of the tiger (no, not this one or the last one ). The only animal that I like as much are wolves.

I don't think some of you realize that hunting is the reason a lot of these animals still exist. Guess what. You attach a price tag of $25,000 or more to an animal & the locals stop poaching them for food or because they killed a chicken or two. They're not hunted to extinction either - the number of animals is managed to keep a healthy population.

Go fuck yourself. Speaking from experience it's impossible to talk with the likes of you.

And no, I'm not a PETA advocate. I kill pest animals. In fact the first job I'll do once I've finished uni would likely involve killing thousands of rats, possums, ferrets, other mustelids, and controlling populations of wild pigs and deer.

The locals tend not to poach lions for food. Not exactly the safest source of meat when there are plenty of herbivores you can hunt or even better raise domestic livestock. And in fact locals killing lions because they kill their livestock is a large problem and it's not well regulated:

We aren't talking about North America here where there are well-respected laws in place to manage animal populations. This is Africa, the laws are few and far between and the ones that do exist are hard to enforce. Poaching of many big game animals is still a very big problem.

So basically it's just like North America. If you see a fox in on your farm, you shoot it. Coyotes, shoot it. Bear, shoot it.

It sucks they'll go extinct but you can't get angry at locals for doing this. If there's a lion killing your livestock, you'd shoot it too.

I'm just arguing the point with Dr.P.

One of my favorite pictures taken by me, Disney's Animal Kingdom.

I got to work on the Safari ride for a few months. Seeing these animals up close is amazing. Very sad to think that many of them may not be around in their natural habitat for our children to see.

What does hunting have to do with habitat loss and poaching? Nothing. Everyone knows this.

It's teeny weeny chinamen that want to please their subservient concubines that lead to the collapse of the Tiger population. Even you know this.

yea, kill an animal from hundreds of feet away with a high powered rifle. you da man now dawg.

if you love hunting so much, use a bow and arrow, or better yet, your bare hands

yeah, hunting only makes sense to me with either a knife, a spear, or your teeth. I'll take a bow and arrow.

But other than that, it's just wussy men with tiny cocks and big guns.

yeah, but it's true. They likes them tiger penis.

It is sadly true. The market in exotic animals for use in hocus pocus traditional medicines is huge and is driving many species to the brink of extinction.

Though I still think it's secondary to habitat distruction.
