Some Reactions.

Claflin, “pinned the specific timing of the announcement on the schedule of the board meeting where the final decision was made (also yesterday) and fears of subsequent leaks once the decision was made.”
“Be that as it may, the optics of pulling a shotgun replacement of the CEO, a week before earnings, without even having the compensation package of his replacement fully in place is going to (justifiably) raise questions with investors.”

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-r9-price-drops-are-only-temporary-part-of-promotion.html
The USA promotion prices are already kicking live while the EU prices should follow next week. Though AMD is a little unclear as to how, why and what. Basically the board and channel partners apply a self-proclaimed promotion and sells the aforementioned cards at the lower prices. That is until stock runs out, from what we learned the prices will go up after that promotion ends.
This seems interesting.

Not with a ten foot pole. This may be a good stock for an experienced day trader - or someone who is comfortable with a ton more risk than I am.

IMO, given how many *quality* semi names just sold off big time, there's no way I would want to touch a stock like AMD.

AMD hit 40 in the early part of 2006; and was down to 20 by the end of the year.

It was under 2 for a short while not too long ago.

Beats me how you valuate something like amd. The only minor unlikely upside is even depandant on Mubadala decisions. Who knows what they are thinking? Its freaking impossible unless you know how to work politically. If you dont have the means to do so - and only a very few have - my take is its not even high risk investment but more like gambling in a random bar.

Until gf and amd is in reality completely separated its the job of mubadala to dump money into amd. Investing in amd now is like investing in gf indirectly as that is - still - viewed as the major asset. Anyone thinks gf is the future? With Mubadala as owner? If you can say yes then gamble in amd stock. Lol.

What is the value of Mubadala investment in GF worth?
The valuation clearly defines if its a success or not - or even a failure
In a company where success is defined by political goals, business goals becomes second nature.
It then becomes more important to upright the goal about the success of diversifying and developping into other sectors. You want a fairy tale picture of it and good exuces if it dont succeed. AMD can easily become catched in a trap here for the simple reason its difficult to know the value of GF process on an open market.
Like Intel, GF process practicall have no other custormers, but what we know from those products is they are bad performant and leaking. Do AMD pay the right for that product, and what is it worth? - there is ofcource another side to it - the investment in AMD that needs to pay off. But it brings it all to a situation locking all adaptability for both GF and AMD. I have said this several years ago, but it seems now is the time to do something about it, as it clearly dont solve itselves.

It might be a good time to buy if your some. AMD, Intel, Nvidia whatever. To me the CEO change spook factor is already factored into the price at $3 The below was what dragged down everybody late this week. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/heres-ceo-quote-thats-sending-174000843.html Microchip works in imbedded. I don't view Microchip's warning as a bad thing for the big 3 PC component makers since all three have ventured off into embedded. I view the warning as a major positive for the big three in which Wallstreet is grossly misinterpreting.

I don't think the AMD tail is wagging the GLF dog that way, in fact, I believe the opposite is true.

AMD in the past was able to support alone 1-2 fabs, but today they can't barely fill a 1 billion quota per year, which is, for 14-10nm standards, peanuts. But were they to become a huge embedded player, selling tons of chips for peanuts, that would be a game changer for Globalfoundries, because they would have the volumes they need for the fabs and they would make money through it. Given the shrinking volumes, AMD is becoming more and more irrelevant for GLF in the big picture.

This made me chuckle. I think even many AMD fans would secretly have a hard time disagreeing. AMD should probably do what smart smaller companies do and farm out at least some of their marketing. It would probably get a lot better, if not cheaper.

I know the chaps at AMDZone were quite keen to help out AMD in their marketing and couldn't understand why AMD were not responding to their offers to help out.

She seems very well qualified and I'm glad they are picking somebody who knows hardware.

AMD need to do something like K7 or Athlon 64. I want a 16 core FX 9696 on 14nm

But AMD enables XBONE, and I can't imagine a more vilifiable individual for misogyny right now in tech other than MS's CEO.

Are you talking about this?

I'm also pretty sure #GamerGate is morals and standards for 5th estate journalism.

SJW is a misnomer as they aren't about social justice and they are the opposite of #GamerGate.

Lisa Su, has a higher overall potential than Dirk Meyer/Rory Read. In bringing up AMD in whole with no losses, to the point of pre-Hector Ruiz competition. The foundry isn't coming back though, that is for price concerns. If a corporation becomes to attached to the expensive node it is building. Then, there is negative consequences for the consumer.

Performance
Power
Affordability

Kings by 2020. Hopefully.

Is there anything known about any of the business politics that were involved with this changing of business executives?

I was looking for updates on Lisa Su's promotion and didn't see anything. Since AMD is in quiet mode pending release the last quarter's numbers - I don't expect that we will learn much more till Oct. 16th (IIRC).

Did you know the "quiet period" actually only applies to registrations? There's no such thing as a quiet period before earnings reports. Companies use this made-up rule to hide behind when they don't want to give out information.

http://www.sec.gov/answers/quiet.htm

Since we can be pretty confident AMD has not filed a registration to issue shares it leads one to to think they have something to hide.

Yeah, stock is down another 15% just in After Hours. Must be a big leak. This company is ridiculous.

I don't think AMD has anything to hide; they announced the change early so they can focus Wall Street on the job cuts and the new plan rather than the loss and the shock of Rory's ouster during the conf call.

Stock down nearly 20% AH and you don't think AMD has anything to hide? Trace the money, usually the truth is there.
