I thought they were all good crime movies when they came out considering the years they were made in. And I can appreciate the fact that many younger modern movie goers would find them a bit hard to comprehend and digest now, considering the current crop of mostly action slop that passes for crime movies now.
those are classic movies even for the younger crowd (I couldn't say about the teen-agers of this year but I'm in my early 20s and watched them when I was still a teen), at least scarface is.
They aren't outdated or anything.

I like how they explore the effect of crime on human relationships and minds over time, many movies just have the bad guy already there. These also kinda show the dynamic that keeps the mafia going. Kinda like "the wire" does.

Nope, but I saw the trailer and was unimpressed by it.

Apparently, the recent one is a remake. I watched it because it had Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis in it.

I still don't know how such a shitty production got those big-name actors involved.

I just watched the 2:45 trailer, and I think I want my 2:45 back. I heard about this, it has decent reviews and a 8.0 rating and it also proves that a lot of women rate tear jerker date movies a lot higher than men do on IMDB.

See, I loved Magnolia. I'm not much of a "tear jerker" kind of guy, but the movie connected with me. I can understand why certain viewers would hate it though.

Requiem For a Dream http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2156069145/ I keep meaning to watch that, and the trailer looks interesting enough.

See Requiem. Brilliant film.

Grandma's Boy.

Easily one of my favorite silly comedy films.

It is a great movie and is a Paul Thomas Anderson film. He is not in the business of chick flicks. The person that hated it probably hates any movie that doesn't involve adam sandler or tyler perry.

There's one film considered an all-time great which i could just not bear - Barry Lyndon; i thought it was so tedious, boring and dull that it made my brain hurt.

FYI i can easily enjoy a 3 hour sitting of Ran, director's cut, in Japanese, but for the life of me that Kubrick film is unbearable.

I bought a Blu copy of Barry Lyndon quite a few months ago to round out my Kubrick collection, and finally watched it all last month. I had seen bits and pieces of it before, as edited for TV versions, but after watching it all I am still not sure about it, and I can't say that I completely liked all of it.

The pacing just seems a bit off at times, as if the action in the movie speeds up and down a lot. Just when something finally happens and it gets interesting, it suddenly slows down to a crawl again. And it suffers from massive length, too, at 184 minutes (with an intermission). I think I could take this and edit it down to around 120 minutes, and most people who saw it before wouldn't miss that much and the others who never saw it before would be a lot happier while viewing it.

I think this movie is a good example of what happens when the director has way too much influence over the production and editing of a film.

I never saw Ran yet. Maybe someday.

Lost - after the first two seasons

LOST was something you had to experience with friends while it was happening. I can imagine watching it on Netflix by yourself is pretty hollow.

I agree with Battleship, put the first Transformers on the list as well.

Many won't agree with this, but I thought The Hobbit was terrible. If you really have trouble sleeping here's your cure.

Ah.

What sucks for the movie goers is that a lot of crappy movies wouldn't get made at all if it wasn't for the big names signing on to make them just because the studio suits want star power at the box office.

Grandma's Boy.

But, but... it has Shirley Jones AND Jonah Hill! IT CAN'T MISS! (says a drunk studio boss on his 20 million dollar yacht in the Mediterranean Ocean to his million dollar plastic surgery ex-porn star mistress.)

http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi44761369?ref_=tt_pv_vi_2

Jeff: Grace... I have something to confess.
Grace: What's that?
Jeff: [pauses] You were my first.
Grace: Really? Oh, that's sweet. You were my...
[thinks hard]
Grace: 3,000-something.
Jeff: [Raises hand to give a high five] Word up.

I confess that this clip above made me LOL on IMDB. But after reading the ?plot? this is something I doubt I will watch, unless I'm flipping channels one day and I catch the last 15 minutes of it.

Melancholia is in my Netflix que. Thanks for the warning.

Enter the Void I have thought about renting before, and the previews I have seen look like a psychedelic drug trip. I may add this to my Netflix que just to see if I can tolerate much of it.

Sucker Punch is made to appeal to the limited demographic of the ADD video game crowd, which is pretty much not 90% of the people who may watch this movie at some point.

A date movie PLUS a marriage movie PLUS a comedy about it just can't miss! (says a drunk studio boss on his 20 million dollar yacht in the Mediterranean Ocean to his million dollar plastic surgery ex-porn star mistress.)

And I doubt I will ever watch this emotional hot mess comedy, just sayin, all you drunk studio bosses.

Perhaps this is why it was so lost in translation for me when I tried to watch it alone.

I agree with Battleship, put the first Transformers on the list as well.

I'm not sure what I was expecting with the first Transformers movie, but I didn't have many complaints about it, as long as it didn't show Shia LaBeouf "acting". Then it got on my nerves a bit. And my same complaint applies to the other Transformers movies.

Many won't agree with this, but I thought The Hobbit was terrible. If you really have trouble sleeping here's your cure.

It was not terrible in my opinion, but it was no Lord of the Rings, either. I think held to that standard, it definitely failed.

Ya, I don't think the Hobbit was bad at all, but lacked a lot, and I hate some of Jackson's style, like the cartoonish treament of the Goblin King.

Plan 9 from Outer Space holds a bit of reverence as far as bad movies go for me though, it is not one I would absolutely NOT recommend anyone to see EVER! as my title implies. But rather it is in the same revered space as Ed Wood, Glen or Glenda and a bunch of other farcical sci-fi and horror movies from that same time period.

And that list has some movies on it I would argue about being the worst. Some of those movies I even paid to see when they came out at the theater, which might make my memories of them a bit better than when seen edited on a TV farther down the road by someone else.
