Plan 9 from Outer Space holds a bit of reverence as far as bad movies go for me though, it is not one I would absolutely NOT recommend anyone to see EVER! as my title implies. But rather it is in the same revered space as Ed Wood, Glen or Glenda and a bunch of other farcical sci-fi and horror movies from that same time period.

And that list has some movies on it I would argue about being the worst. Some of those movies I even paid to see when they came out at the theater, which might make my memories of them a bit better than when seen edited on a TV farther down the road by someone else.

Actually, most of those movies are so bad they are worth watching.

The pacing just seems a bit off at times, as if the action in the movie speeds up and down a lot. Just when something finally happens and it gets interesting, it suddenly slows down to a crawl again. And it suffers from massive length, too, at 184 minutes (with an intermission)

EXACTLY

I think I could take this and edit it down to around 120 minutes, and most people who saw it before wouldn't miss that much and the others who never saw it before would be a lot happier while viewing it.

Kubrick absolutely refused to cut anything
I never saw Ran yet. Maybe someday.

I would accept that maybe, i'm just missing the point; and yet i think that sometimes, even the great make mistakes. To me, BL is just so slow, that it becomes unwatchable.

For instance a lot of people seemed to like "The Tree of Life". I thought it was, by far, the worst steaming pile I've attempted to sit through. I didn't make it through the whole thing, and I will usually sit through an entire film no matter what.

Oh, The Tree of Life? Best film of 2012, by far!

But no, I wouldn't really recommend it to most people. Not at all.

...see how I did that?

Naked Lunch

I can think of two things wrong with that title!

(DAMN IT! too late! )

...but seriously. I saw this some years ago at a midnight showing at the Music Box. I was likely drunk and decently stoned, and I thought it was amazing. .....I don't remember much, though...after Peter Weller.

This movie is just weird for weird's sake and I can't remember the last time a man having sex with his dead wife while being raped from behind by a typewriter with buttocks and a tail was considered a clever statement on the writing process,

actually...that is very apt and makes tons of sense to me. So I guess, yeah: this comenter really doesn't get it.

Another example is I hate musicals. I just don't like anything about them. So if you asked me to recommend a musical, I'd tell you to avoid them all, because they are all ridiculous. Now what if you liked musicals? Then my opinion holds no weight (and shouldn't).

I'll be checking out "On the Road" though...even if everyone said it was terrible, just because I've read the book and it intrigues me. *shrug* I wouldn't presume to tell someone not to see a movie just because I didn't like it.

Edit: See I didn't mind Battleship or Transformers 2. Both are just silly action movies...I don't expect much from them except mind numbing plots, a couple gratuitous "hot model" shots and explosions. In both cases, they delivered. But I also like movies more considered critic friendly and/or artsy.

The South Park movie was pretty close to if not a musical.

There's one film considered an all-time great which i could just not bear - Barry Lyndon; i thought it was so tedious, boring and dull that it made my brain hurt.

FYI i can easily enjoy a 3 hour sitting of Ran, director's cut, in Japanese, but for the life of me that Kubrick film is unbearable.

It's one of my favorite Kubrick flicks!

I think I will pass on this one, too. Even the stupid title is a major turn off and flags it as date movie fare.

I Heart Hucakbees is also awesome. If you like David O Russell flicks and other offbeat auteurs (think of him as a more light-hearted Charlie Kaufman), you will like it.

David O Russell also did Spanking the Monkey and Three Kings. More recently:The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, which are both very excellent yet significant departures from his previous work (though is humor comes through in SLP)

Huckabees is certainly not date fare. It is almost guaranteed to not get you laid.

Melancholia is in my Netflix que. Thanks for the warning.

wtf? You rant about how terrible Antichrist is, yet you go ahead and stick another Lars von Trier flick at the top of your queue?

Do you never pay attention to what you are doing? Does no one care about the people who create their entertainment? ....is this why people so often fail when it comes to missed expectations of what they are getting themselves into?

First thing I look at in a film is writer/director. I give 2 dicks about the faces in the film.

The thing about the Ed Wood stuff is that they weren't meant to be farcical--Ed Wood was dead serious about trying to make great, serious films....he was just terrible at it. But that didn't deter him, which is admirable in itself.

He certainly made better films that Michael Bay could ever dream of.

And if no one has seen Burton's Ed Wood, they should.

Ang Lee's The Hulk - only movie I have ever walked out of in the theater.

Canibal Ferox (i.e., Make them Die Slowly) - Gruesome 19080's horror flick that I had the misfortune of seeing when I was about 10. My dad let me rent it from Erols (remember Erols?). Many gruesome scenes of torture, including one scene where a main character has his wang cut off and eaten by some cannibals.

Suffice it to say - not a nice movie to watch with the kiddos.

I really didn't know anything about Ed Wood, and haven't seen any of his movies, but Burton's "Ed Wood" was brilliant. Great film. Not one I'd watch a 2nd time, but a great film.

The War of the Worlds remake (dakota fanning made me want to rip my ears off)

Beneath? or was it Below..so bad I can't even remember the name...

I missed commenting on these before.

The War of the Worlds remake was pretty good in my opinion. But it failed to capture the sheer horror of the original at times, like the scene in the house where they see the alien and then chop off the flexable periscope thingy with the eye on it. That scene gave me nightmares as a kid, no shit.

Click - Adam Sandler and utter garbage.

Click I watched expecting to hate it, and then I was actually surprised by it at times. I think it's one of the best movies he made, I know, that's not saying much, lol.
