Does the HR-03 fit the 8800gt? I know it would need some additional sinks for the VR, but other than that, does the HR-03GT have different mounting holes than the regular HR-03? I already have a HR-03 on my 1900xt, and it would be nice if I could reuse that $50 heatsink on my new card.

HR-03 fits 8800GT from what i heard. My Zalman VF1000 idles at 39c and loads 53c for crysis. Thats on full overclock for 780core/1900shaders/2000memory. This is in a room that is 71F warm

The Thermalright HR-03GT will be at resellers this coming week. It is the recommended Thermalright cooler rather than the HR-03 Rev. A , because The GT version has six heat pipes rather than the Rev, A's four.

Do GPU HSF's ever go on sale? I'd love to find a red hot deal on the Zalman VF1000. (I'm kinda smitten with it; it's gargantuan!)

I can confirm that it does indeed work on the 8800GT. I put mine to the test with the Zalman today and HOT DAMN!!! It works like a bomb!

My 8800GT was on 56degC in idle with the stock cooler, and 72degC when playing Crysis all settings on high, which is not bad I guess. But with the Zalman I am getting the following readings: 42degC idle, 54degC load!

All bow down to Zalman!

I installed a Zalman VF-900Cu and RAM heatsinks on my SC 8800GT. I also installed Koolance BGA ramsinks and Microcool mini-ramsinks on all of the mosfets and other components on the board (including the one mosfet on the back). The VF-900Cu was installed with Arctic Ceramique, and all of the other heatsinks were installed with Chomerics T412 Thermal Adhesive Tape.

It brought idle/load temps from 60°C/92°C down to 41°C/58°C. I'll try and post a picture in the future.

I'm a believer in Rivatuner...

I set up auto fan and can't hear it much until the 80% kicks in... 100% kicks in at 74c but it almost never gets that hot except when playing Crysis and then it never gets high then 76c max, which is low enough for since the GPU is rated somewhare above 100c...

Looks like at least one card manufacturer agrees!

The AC S1 can be had cheaper at SVC, though I'm not sure if they carry the module fans. I'd definitely get the module fans unless your case have great airflow.

$15.75 + shipping at EWiz currently (froogle link).

WoW, great post
Can I simply strap a 120mm fan on the S1 or what do you recommend?

I would say Yes as I've seen photos of 120mm fans on that unit. I would personally place a Yate-Loon 120mm fan on the sink blowing toward the card to cool the sink, the cards ram and other components on the card.

S1 is better from the reports I've seen. With one or two 120mm fans strapped on I don't think there is a cooler out there that beat it. The HR-03 comes pretty close though.

well, my order is out for delivery atm, so i should have it within an hour or two. i believe the fans on the module are 80mm, so it should be pretty good.

just so i can compare temps: is there a good way to monitor load temps? ATItool doesn't work for me. any other way to monitor under load?

Would I be better off getting the S1 or S2?
Both of them are available at: www.canadacomputers.com and that's where I'll be picking up my new Case and PSU in preparation for my new 8800GT that's coming in the mail soon, woot.

Uhm, also aside from getting the S1/S2 what else would I need to buy? An additional 120mm fan or something?
Oh, last question.. I'm trying to decide between the SopranoRS and the Antec 900 - is the difference in cooling offered by the Antec 900 substantial enough to warranty getting it over the SopranoRS, or no?

s1 would be fine. and unless your PC is really hot or has bad airflow, just the cooler should be fine. a fan wouldn't hurt, but probably wouldn't be necessary.
