I went looking for a list of M.2 SSDs recently and was amazed at how little information there was and how hard it was to find, so I decided to fix it. I first tried creating this list on wikipedia so it could be shared with everyone and allow everyone to contribute, but the wiki admins didn't like it and deleted it Wish you guys could have seen the beautiful sortable table I had created...

So I decided I would try to recreate the table here, forgive me if it's ugly... If you have any ideas for improving it or can contribute to the information provided, PLEASE do so!

All performance numbers are according to the manufacturers.

You should check the form factor. On most new slim notebooks, Chromebooks, and tablets, the 2280 size, which is the most common, (why?), will not fit. Why they did that, I don't know, but a lot of folks expect that M.2 == M.2, and if they're lucky, can just pay shipping back. It also makes for a problem with capacities and expectations of what you can get.

Thank you! I actually did look at your site several times, and while it has very good information about the motherboards and general information, I didn't see much in the way of information about specific drives. If I've overlooked something that you feel is relevant to this post please let me know.

In other news, I finally decided to buy an M.2 Plextor M6e today, despite the fact that it's limited to 2 PCIe lanes (it's going in an ASROCK z97 extreme6). I decided the wait time and premium for the XP941 just didn't make sense.

Thanks for the support guys, hopefully this thread eventually gets more contributions. I just read the review on the Intel SSD pro 2500, looks like it's time for an update... It's just too bad we're getting yet another SATA 6gbps drive instead of native PCI-e.

Eventually I am hoping to add M.2 (x2 PCIe) to my system once the availability increases and the prices drop.

The only one in that list that looks good (to me anyway) is the Samsung XP941. I hope we see more M.2 x4 drives showing up soon.

I agree with Adam that the Samsung XP941 is the sexiest option by far. Does it have NVMe support though? I know that I'm waiting for an NVMe M.2 drive and I imagine a lot of other people are too. Perhaps noting that somewhere would be nice, at least when those drives start popping up.

Edited to add: It looks like the upcoming Samsung SM951 will be the first NVMe M.2 SSD, http://www.anandtech.com/show/8236/...845-dc-pro-with-vnand-sm951-with-nvme-support. Let's hope the price isn't too crazy.

Agreed. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but getting an M.2 drive with a 6 Gb/s SATA interface doesn't make much sense at all, right?
