Windows phone is surprisingly good.
So far, I've found a few good things:
1. at least on the tablet, full flash support makes the full internet usable. Makes up for a lack of apps.
2. First good document syncing across multiple devices, using office + skydrive. Better than any iOS using Pages or Android solutions.
3. At least on Nokia phones, a good offline navigator.
4. Halo
1. What?
2. The document syncing depends on your usage. For example, iCloud syncs my documents just fine if I use iWork on my laptop. If I use Office, then obviously they're incompatible.
3. I've never had a need for offline navigation so I can't comment.
4. Now this is what I wanted to comment on. I was so waiting for this game. It was just so bad. The controls were awkward, the graphics were iPhone 3GS-level. It was just a game that seemed rushed together to get it out there to sell handsets. I still paid $7 for it though, so who's the sucker?
A feature on WP I liked was list selection. Being able to tap the left of an email or something and automatically have it select it and start a multiple selection without first having to hit Edit or Menu or something was pretty nifty.
I like the Nokia Here Maps feature where, when you search for a place and then call it, it inserts the name of the place you've called in your call history so that when you look at it, you know what it is as opposed to just some random phone number you don't know.
I liked the lock screen. It wasn't too wild like Android's lock screens can be and it wasn't too locked down like iOS. I loved being able to have the bing image of the day show up on t he lock screen and then have an application show me the weather and then have news notifications from CNN above notifications. The problem with this is that it just didn't update fast enough. Weather and news alerts were frequently hours behind.
The other problem I had with notifications is that you couldn't 'glance and act' on them. With iOS, for example, I can walk away from my phone for twenty minutes, come back, hit the power button and instantly see everything I missed in great detail. I can then decide to act on something I need by swiping the notification across and directly opening the app. On Windows Phone, I can see that I have notifications, but the information I get about them is extremely limited.
