One Way Heroics - 7/10

I picked this one up on Steam a couple of weeks ago for the price of a burger, and I have been having a good time with it. It is a pretty light rogue style game with a unique twist. There is always this approaching darkness coming from the left side of the screen. If you get caught in the darkness, it's game over. The darkness mechanic keeps you focused on moving, and also makes for some pretty tense monster fights. Like some other rogue-lites out there, there are some persistent changes you can make through upgrades which makes failed runs worth something. Anyhow, you can play an entire game in about 15 minutes which is nice. All in all, well worth the couple of bucks I spent on it.

Path of Exile: 9/10 This game has incredible depth and replayability. I've played this for about 2 years now as my main game, and I'm still excited to see what the company will come out with next. It's basically Diablo 2 with more depth, but without Blizzard's polish.

Dungeon Defenders 2: 4/10 The original Dungeon Defenders was a fantastic solo/group game with so much depth that I put 3k hours into it and hadn't come close to accomplishing everything. The second installment is on Steam Early access and while gameplay is good and improved in many ways they have taken the game away from single player where it was once so strong. I've still got hopes for the game though. Fun can still be had.

Magicka Wizard Wars: 8/10 This could very well be the most skill based moba on the market right now. Players control a hooded wizard and have 8 elements they combine in 3's to cast spells. Gameplay is EXTREMELY fast and enjoyable. The problems with this game are many though... Paradox is the worst at developing netcode and still don't have things stable after a year. Player pool is also somewhat low. You can find games, but often you play with the same people all day. Also, people who are good at this game are a LOT better than you... It can be tough to get started.

Dragon Age Inquisition 9 out of 10: great story and gaming experience for me

Diablo 3 w/out expansion: 8 out 10: Simple concept, what ht ehell is not fun just killing stuff and a story around it if you desire it. I was one of those people who liked the auction house because I was making lots of in game game gold. I do not own the expansion because I don't feel the price tag is worth what you get. I will purchase it when it comes down in price.

Guild Wars 2 8/10- I enjoy coming back to this game. I liked it when it came out and still like it now. A fun game which many of my friends play off and on.

The Secret World: 9/10 - Another game I keep coming back to as well. I love the story in the game and appreciate all the elements in the game. One of my favorite games in the last 5 years.

These are the games I currently have in my rotation. DA Inq was the first game in a long time to be added into the rotation. Tried so many things and they either weren't for me or I didnt feel the replay value.

Wolfenstein The New Order - 9/10

Gameplay - Great. It's a linear shooter but does a lot to give you choice in how you approach firefights. There are LOTS of different ways to get through every encounter. The laserkraftwerk is an awesome gun/tool and I love how they used it and the combat/escape options it can open up in realtime. You must improvise to make it through some of the bigger fights.

Graphics - A very good looking game albeit with the caveats that come with an IDtech game. The texturing gives everything a very unique look but they suffer in sharpness when up close. Real time lighting is another weak point, there is not a lot of dynamic light sources at work, and even the gun barrel barely reacts to lighting. Character animation is some of the best i've seen the way enemies and especially the robots move is very cool with a great sense of weight. I personally really like the DOF implementation as well even though it does cause a lot of blur it adds a hyperreal aspect to the image that works. Art direction is strong throughout.

Sound - Tremendous. Weapon sounds are all great and the music is incredible. Whoever did the soundtrack deserves some awards. Sounds effects are appropriately ripping with a mechanical bent.

Story - Outstanding. Really great characters, huge epic set pieces and a captivating alternate history timeline. You need to suspend disbelief, it's very over the top and it's very awesome.

Just finished King Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame and it was surprisingly entertaining. I'm not a fan of RTS but somehow I could manage to beat this game (I think archers are OP and that helped me win most battles). This game has it all. I'd give it a 8/10.

As you guys know, I've been on a gaming dry spell lately. I created a thread for it and I just could not get into several highly rated titles released in past 1-3 years. I don't know why. But something finally broke it. That is Wolfenstein: New Order.

Wolfenstein: New Order 8.5/10: This game is just awesome. How did this fly under my radar? I don't think this game had significant buzz around it, especially compared to other AAA titles like Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, etc. The presentation of this game is AMAZING. And it has both action AND plot substance.

I agree with EVERY word of TotalBiscuit's review here. He gave it best game of 2014:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51BCOUsyszQ#t=1307
It's action packed, and the painstakingly detailed alternate Nazi conquered world is absolutely engrossing. This is like Half Life 3 for me, maybe better than HL2 because it had just too many puzzles at some point, not enough action.

PLAY THIS GAME. The presentation & scripted interaction is so amazing that even my non-gamer wife was sucked into watching them.

My friend made me play a Japanese Visual Novel called "Sengoku Rance".

Its meant for mature audience as there is a lot of sexual scenes but all in the pure aspect of comedy.

i think i would give that game almost a 10.... it did keep me busy in the rpg tatics type portion as well as made the story hella funny with Rance's lust.

This is what i mean about turn based tatics..

you can find translated fansub mods of the game.
I believe it doesn't hold any licenses in the US also, although don't quote me on that...
Alicesoft isnt EA, and most of there stuff is not for distribution outside of Japan. (no ESRB)

Sengoku Rance is frickin amazing. Basically my 2013 Chrimas holiday consists of playing it and nothing else. The amount of content the put in it is just ludicrous. Spent 30 hours or so and finished the game only to realize that it is basically just the prologue. The New Game+ mode gives you different story routes and radically different scenario. Highly recommended if you like strategy. Crazy thing is that this is actually supposed to be an ecchi/hentai game and I would actually put this up there with grand strategy games like Europa Universalis IV.

Do I have to play other games in the 'series' or is this good as an independent game?

Nope. I've never played the other games in the series as well and not intend to. AFAIK, the rest are standard jrpg with hentai elements

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. 8/10: Good Game. You are not gonna find any innovation in its mechanic and gameplay but the game manages to keep you doing new stuff. The story, even though its cliche and a bit confusing, was cool and fun. On the contrary of the 1st game that had 1 story and 2 campaigns (autobot and decepticon), this one keeps you going back and forth from one faction to the other which i thought was cool (being the last level really chaotic when
both factions are fighting each other and you play a tiny bit of the level with almost all the transformers
It has a horde mode to play cooperatively and a mp component that is supposed to be good and not dead but has hackers around.
finished it in 10hs, you can easily finish it in a weekend.

I started playing this game, but already I have a problem. It looks like playing more than once is pretty much a requirement, and I don't replay games (my queue is long enough and will take me a lifetime even without replaying anything). Am I wrong in that assessment?

If you just want to play the main story then there's no need for multiple plays.

I glanced at the wiki and you need New Game+ mode if :
-
- You want to play the alternate storylines (such as Kenshin Emperor's Race or Isoroku's storyline). There are 3 alternative storylines.
- You want to start with bonuses and radically different starting scenario. For example you can opt to start your game already having Uesugi Kenshin, one of the best general in the game. However you will also start the game already at war with the Uesugi clan. This could really ramp up i.e. start with 10 godlike general but also at war with 5 clans from the get go. The bonus could also be more basic things that just make life easier and dont change the scenario very much like giving you extra items or money.
- You want to play with different difficulty setting.

PC: I'm still playing Far Cry 4. Right as I was finishing the campaign, I did a major hardware overhaul. Played through again to play as the other side and to see what I missed. Almost done, on to Dragon Age!

Mobile: I was hyp-mo-tized by Bloons TD4 since the summer, but I'm finally burning out. Just as a goof, I fired up 10,000,000 again. Now I'm addicted to that. Again!
I saw an old xperia play on Ebay for around $30 and bought it. I threw on a SNES emulator and Castlevania. I'm seeing some old-school gaming in my future...

Four of my buddies picked up evolve last Wednesday and we have really been having fun just playing friend games on 4v1.

All the DLC bullcrap aside, the game is really fun so far and I'm having a good time gearing up and unlocking things. We all work together and spend a fair part of the day discussing strategy. It's really starting to probably get unhealthy seeing as how we've put about 40 hours in it together so far....

There's a lot of strategy and every level goes differently. That game has a way of really knocking you down a peg or two, just when you think you're getting above the curve.

So a solid 8/10 so far- I don't support their pre-order and DLC bunk, but the game IS fun Lan-party material and will dutifully tide me over until project cars and mortal kombat x

Here's a more thorough review of Wolfenstein: New Order now that I've finished it.

Presentation 10/10: Absolutely spectacular. The cutscenes play like AAA cinematic. Even my wife who's a total non-gamer got into watching them and was interested in how the plot developed. The cinematography is amazing. The fleshed out Nazi-conquered world is beautifully realized. This isn't your Call of Duty, boys. This is far more closer to Half Life series, but with more action.

Gameplay 8/10: FPS at its heart should have a SOLID gun play. And it does. Shooting down enemies feel very satisfying- especially with the assault rifle & shotgun rather than the flashy laser stuff. A.I. is typical of id software games- they're quite dumb afterall. If I use my silencer and unload 7-10 rounds blatantly at someone, the other enemies don't notice because I used a silencer. This isn't a big hindrance as most of the game is action focused.

The game contains a 'light' skill system which is good because they're nice to have, but don't make much difference. Most of them are menial things like holding more ammo or reloading slightly faster. So effectively, the game doesn't tie you down to a specific style. I can play stealth and have its own fun (although it's quite shallow), and also mow down enemies. The recoil is very restrained on purpose it seems- you still maintain good accuracy.

I played this on Uber difficulty, which is the highest on default. This was challenging enough for me, I did have to restart multiple times in some areas. There's also the hardcore mode unlockable too.

Plot 7/10: The world is great, the details are great, and characters are acceptable. But the actual story can be quite corny. It's very over the top. There's nothing wrong with that in itself, but it can be jarring because the rest of the game tries to be quite semi-realistic/authentic. So it's little bit crazy. I mean,
you get to go to the MOON, steal their nuke key, then pilot the damn space ship to re-enter earth's atmosphere, crash land in the heart of London upon which you IMMEDIATELY kill everyone.

And that main hero's gruffy whispering voice throughout the ENTIRE game was quite annoying and cheesy.

Music 9/10: Absolutely spectacular. The menu/gallery music is just eerily beautiful- it's a slow string/synth melancholy music as if the earth is mourning current Nazi state. And
when your hideout gets torched, that dramatic score is utterly beautiful.

Overall 8.5/10: I've been waiting to play a game like this. I like tightly made linear gameplay, but this is just too linear. One box to another. However it's been a blast and story was solid enough to keep me interested. All in all, I was totally wow'd by it, but was never 'just one more hour' hungry for playing.

Everyone should play this game. It's a solid real action FPS meets elements of HL2 / Bioshock.

Been playing a bunch of casual/light games lately. Some of them are surprisingly good. Like the following two

Broforce - 9/10 - Basically a mix of contra, metal slug, and the expendables movie. The premise is a bit ridiculous, but the gameplay and sound are sublime. Over the top explosions? Check! Fun guns? Check! Chuck Norris? Check. What is not to like?

Nuclear Throne - 8/10 - its still in the pre-release phase but you would not know it from playing. What looks like a simple twin stick shooter becomes a brutally difficult and strategy oriented game in later stages. Very easy to run out of bullets. And when you run out of bullets, well, you die. Ok not right away. But soon enough.

Railroad Tycoon 3. 10/10, which I give to all games that I still play if they came out 10+ years ago. It's missing some of the depth of earlier RT games (like signals) but it captures the spirit and is tons of fun. It's easy to pick up, the controls are a little dated but easily manageable. Until a new Railroad Tycoon comes out, I'll still probably play it every now and again for a while.

I reinstalled it over the weekend to play, and got a kick out of how it warned me that if I didn't have at least 64mb of VRAM turning on anti-aliasing might slow it down too much. Turned it on anyway, along with the FPS meter. My Radeon 7870 is good for 460-470 fps at least in the early game .

Got Crysis 3 today, god its miles better then Crysis 2.

Multiplayer=0/10 This is deader then dead,i landed in 2 lobbies and one had obvious hacks. If you buy this,it mind as well be for the singleplayer

Singleplayer=10/10 Cant complain about anything,it pushes my rig pretty good but it simply looks stunning, gameplay is very solid and very enjoyable.Any downfalls in the multiplayer are easily made up for in the singleplayer.

Overall i would give it a 7/10,i like singleplayer but the lack of servers in multiple is the only thing going against it.

Same here!

(No pun intended) but my brother actually got me into this game on Steam. It is a blast and I REALLY like the Alien(s) themed levels. Those were a blast.

Ddit: Can't wait for more levels and more characters. It is a LOT of fun.

The Old City: Leviathan 8/10

A breathtaking story that unfolds as you walk through a detailed and atmospheric city. Told through a wonderfully voice acted narrative that's supported by notes and graffiti littered throughout the level. You find yourself exploring the abandoned sewers that you have chosen to make your home, while also making your way to the surface, this is where you start to see the contrast between the two. As you go on the story starts to unravel, and while I have decided not to say much more about it, strictly out of fear that I may spoil it, I have to be quite honest that after its all said and done I am still confused as to what exactly it was all about. This was probably due to how complex it was and also the method of which it was delivered. You find yourself being spoon fed bits and pieces of the story while also trying to connect it with the environment and the notes that have been scattered around. Some people may be thrown off by this, I on the other hand found it to draw me in deeper. There isn't much when it comes to gameplay, most of your time is spent exploring and reading notes. The other half of your time is spent listening to the narrative and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Some people may call it a walking simulator, I call it a wonderful experience. At the end of the day you have to decide what you are looking for. If you are into deep narrative, enjoy reading, and love to look at eye candy, then this game is for you. If you are looking for action and interaction, then this game is most likely not your cup of tea. The closest thing I can compare it too would have to be The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and Gone Home.

The Banners Saga: 7/10
So i finnally got to play this, on my cellphone. The story at the beginning is hard to follow, too many characters talking and being presented. And if you dont mind watching the caravans moving in a straight line while watching the pretty cool landscape art (which is a lot of the time), the game is pretty good. The story gets interesting the more you play, the combat is fun and a bit challenging sometimes.
Its a pretty different game from what is around to play, its like an interactive novel with turn-based combat. Now i cant wait for the sequel that was announced some months ago
