I've been watching a lot of movies via instant viewing on Netflix lately and they've generally been subpar B-movies.
Here is another one to add to the list.

Blackout - 2/10
Three people are stuck in an elevator during a blackout and one of them turns out to be a serial killer.
The director uses 1001 flashbacks which annoyed me to no end and the ending of the movie left a lot to be desired to say the least.
Not the worst movie that I have ever seen but I can only recommend this movie be shown to prison inmates and in Hell.

Very gripping, even sad & yet hopeful, i was pleasantly impressed with this flick!

Agreed. I can't think of a better sci-fi movie in the last decade.

Valkyrie: 6/10 - felt like it got off to a choppy start... didn't flow well. but i enjoyed it, i thought the acting was good, and the second half of the movie seemed more cogent.

Haunting in Connecticut: 5/10 - i wanted this to be scarier. i wasn't scared at all, just a couple jumps like when the ghosts would be in the mirror (those are obvious though, you almost know they're coming). the blonde MILF was hot, i wish she lived next door or somewhere where she is close enough to walk over and have sex.

The Box - 5/10: So much potential here that ultimately falls flat once David Kelyl starts to go all David Kelly on us. The first half of the film is pretty good, aside from Diaz's horrendous accent, building some decent suspense and intrigue but gets so convoluted and ridiculous, I just completely lost interest.

There are all kinds of weird edits, where characters show up randomly and you have no idea how they got there or what had just happened to them , even though we seem do be dealing with the repercussions of what just happened to them. There are elements brought in that you think are supposed to be building to something, then those elements disappear, never to return. Keeping this as a simple, Twilight Zone style episode, which is how it starts out, would have been so much more enjoyable but Kelly just cannot seem to help himself.

An Education - 8/10 - This was actually pretty fantastic. I didn't expect to have this film offer me much with which I could identify, but it does a great job unearthing some universal truths about youth, potential, and discovery. Carey Mulligan is now a name on my to-watch list.

Really want to see this but the theatre timings have been horrible. Hope I can get to it before it leaves. I've heard nothing but good things about this.

Has anyone seen Hard Candy? Not gonna tell too much about it, that would spoil the movie. But damn that gave me the creeps. Ending was a bit disappointing though. 7/10

EXCELLENT movie. my ex and i watched this one night on a whim, he was falling asleep and literally had to stay awake to finish watching it. it was VERY good and fucked!

Zombieland

7/10 - Good special effects with lots of zombie gore and blood. Woody Harrelson did this movie right! The director did a good job as well.

The Wackness - 6.5/10: Not a bad little coming of age film about a drug dealing young kid that has just graduated from high school and what goes on in the Summer before he heads to college. Ben Kingsley plays one of the dealer's clients, his psychiatrist, and also the stepfather of his love interest. I found some of the dialogue kind of annoying, but most of the performances were decent (Kingsley was awkward in parts as the drug-addled, sort of mentor, but I think that was intentional and it worked ok) and the direction was good overall. Anyway, decent overall, but not spectacular.

2012 - 7/10: Extremely cheesy lines mixed with pretty good edge-of-seat sequences despite how outrageous they may be. It's basically all your apocalypse movies you've ever seen times about 5. 2nd half was much better than the 1st. Overall wait for DVD.

Marley and Me - 7.5/10: I like dogs, and the ending got me but overall I felt like it was just a story going nowhere in particular.

Transformers 2 - 7/10: I'm a Michael Bay fan enough to watch every movie he'll make. This was nothing out of the ordinary for him. The story felt a bit detached compared with the first which I thought was much better. I basically just ended up watching Megan Fox run around in a low-cut top, with some big machines around fighting each other for a very long time.

Saw 5 - 6/10 - Im always amazed at how inventive they are with this sorta crap (killing). I was cringeing (sp) quite a bit throughout.. but I think its just dragging on.. Saw (1) was the best.

Saw 1 was definitely the best but I thought the last one was a step up from 4 and 5 though that's not saying a whole lot.

It was a "limited" release and was playing at only one theater in my area.

Orpan 7/10 - Decent scary flick. Ending was surprising.
Drag Me To Hell 2/10 - Talk about a cheesy horror movie with some bad CGI and even cheeser lines. Sucked donkey balls.
New Star Trek - 10/10. Loved this movie and the CGI was amazing. Good story. Good Action. Probably best movie ive seen all year.

New Moon - 6/10 I was so thankful that they edited out 90% of the whining from the book.

It would have been given a higher rating except for the following:

How the heck am I supposed to take the endings (from the books) serious with Edward in a fight in 3 and Edward wanting to fight one of the strongest Volturi in the end of the 4th book when he gets his butt handed to him in a fight in a movie that did NOT happen in the book? Yeah, way to totally mess up the character that can read minds and KNOW what the other person is basically going to do.

Dead or Alive - 4/10 decent fight scenes and ok storyline.

Actually if you watch the commentary (which I embarrassingly did) the girls were professional models and they had to have the makeup guys actively try to make them as disheveled as possible for that scene.

This is about an invention that can allow therapists to enter patients' dreams, which falls into the wrong hands and we go along on a pretty fantastic ride to solve the mystery and get it back. Tonnes of interesting visuals and an interesting story which I can imagine could be difficult to follow if you do not really pay attention (fortunately I did). Fun stuff.

If you have not seen Grave of the Fireflies you are REALLY missing out!! Got rent it NOW. I have to admit that I am a bit of an anime fan but not for most of the mainstream stuff. Another one you might want to check out is Wings of Honneamise. I agree though that most of the mainstream stuff is crap. Even the select titles that I love have to be watched with a few things in mind like trying your best to ignore some real high school level philosophizing and bad poetry (except for Grave of the Fireflies).

Watching B-movies via Netflix Instant Queue so you don't have to

House - 2/10

Two couples are stranded in the middle of nowhere, of course, and stumble upon a spooky house. Creepy dumb shit involving long tunnels to nowhere, a dead child, a hick family and possible S&M then occurs.
Production values on this film were admittedly decent but any semblance of a plot was hard to discern and I had to fight to stay awake.
If you have absolutely nothing to do then this movie might be worth your time otherwise don't bother.
