Black Dynamite - 7/10: Pretty darn fun blacksploitation spoof with Michael Jai White doing an awesome job as Black Dynamite, a blacktion hero who's brother is killed by The Man; Dynamite then goes on a rampage to avenge his death. A couple of spots lagged, but many of the jokes were pretty sharp and I definitely had fun with it.

I really enjoyed that one too. I liked the extras on the disc almost as much as the movie.

I cant believe Better Off Ted was cancelled.
Its stupid and fast paced. American audiences should love it.
Or was it not quite dumb enough?

Owning Mahony - 8/10: Phillip Seymour Hoffman stars as Dan Mahony in this based on a true story film about a banker from Toronto with a gambling problem that gets himself in all kinds of hot water. I love PSH, so I'm always happy to see him in a character piece like this and he is awesome as always. The story is good too and moves along at a great pace. Some of the surrounding chracters were pretty poor actors (I assume this is a pretty low budget film) and there were a couple of scenes near the end that bugged me, but overall I liked it a lot.

Torque - 5.5/10: Pretty terrible action film about biker gangs, with rival gangs trying to destroy each other, with the story of one guy who was run out of town as the centrepiece. A bad film, but I actually had some fun with it; I really like Adam Scott and he's awesome in this, but Ice Cube was annoying and some of the stuff went past the point of funny, into the realm of stupid. I like this film much more than that craptastic Fast and the Furious as at least Torque is aware of how stupid it is and keeps it's tongue in its cheek the entire time, unlike Furious which is attempting to be sincere. I would watch this if it popped up on late night TV, I cannot say the same for Furious.

To Live and Die in LA - 5.5/10
Eh. Dissapointed in this one. Maybe it just hasn't held up very well to time. Movie about a secret service officer trying to bring down a counterfeiter. There were a few cool scenes, but a lot of it was just boring. 2 decent points were a few john turturro scenes, and one nice line from william peterson, not really a spoiler but
to a chick informant who is asking for money "you want bread, fuck a baker" lol
and the end of the movie really just unravels into shit

I loved this movie way back when, but have not watched it in ages. I considered picking it up since it was recently released on Blu, but maybe I'll just rent it. :hmm:

well if you used to like it and it has some nostalgia to it, pick it up, its probably quite nice in blu ray, but I just had no connection to it seeing it for the first time. it seemed disjointed, but maybe because I was drifting in and out of really paying attention

It's not a great movie or anything, I just rememebr having a lot of fun with it when I was younger. I really like Willem Dafoe too.

Un Prophete - 8/10 - Intense prison/gangster drama. Tahar Rahim and Niels Arestrup were both impressive. Several scenes stick out for me: two murders that neatly bookend the development of the main character, the flaming apparition of a dead man, and a tense confrontation between Malik and Cesar that is brilliantly telegraphed by their body language. In fact, the whole movie is an impressive display of show-but-don't-tell.

Days of Heaven - 7/10 - I had a hard time engaging with this one until I realized it should be approached from the point of view of Linda, the young sister. The cinematography is certainly gorgeous, and the languid pace allows the viewer to really savor the scenery and the passage of time. Terrence Malick has a characteristic style, to be sure, and those with short attention spans need not apply. Richard Gere and Brooke Adams seemed merely passable in this, but their roles didn't seem to demand much.

Synecdoche, New York - 9/10: Good lord I love Charlie Kaufman and I have no idea why it took me so long to see this (probably just because I missed it in the theatre). Philip Seymour Hoffman was great, as always, as Caden Cotard, the delusional play director with all kinds of relationship issues and various psychoses. Samantha Morton was also great as Hazel, one of his on again, off again love interests. Such a visually amazing film and very poetic in what it's doing; I really related to Cotard as a character and watching him as he sees his entire personality unfold before him, through the use of various characters, was amazing. I'm sure there are some things I did not fully get about this film, but I'll be watching it again to see if I can pick up on them.

Cube - 6/10

Interesting concept. The acting was a bit over the top and theatrical for my tastes. Some of the dialogue was so wordy it distracted me from the viewing. There was a few spots that didn't make sense but after dumbing my brain down I still kind of enjoyed it. It was average at best.

Yep, pretty much how I felt about it. Now it's time for you to go through all of the sequels/prequel! :awe:

Yeah, I'm going to have to pick this up so I can re-watch and go through some of the special features, which look pretty interesting as well.
