The Informant ?/10

I had no idea what was going on during the whole movie until the end.
I didn't know whether he was lying about the whole price fixing thing to cover up his embezzlement or not until the ending cus he lied so much. I honestly didn't like it that much cus I was confused as to what was true or not for anything in the movie.

Srpski Film (English: A Serbian Film): 6.5/10

So I watched this insanely fucked up movie a few weeks ago out of morbid curiosity because a discussion popped up on /b/ and it got me really intrigued.

A retired male porn-star is offered a starring role in an underground, high-art pornographic movie by a super creepy and mysterious film-maker. He is told nothing of the plot and is given instructions through an earpiece, filming live in locations including but not limited to abandoned orphanages. Something seems wrong, the messed up quotient jumps into high gear and there is some newborn baby rape and plenty of slickly-edited appalling imagery.

Trust me when I say that it is some of the most fucked up shit ever committed to film. What's really interesting though is that this is still a good film. It actually has great production values and is very expertly put together. The atmosphere and background score sucks you in. The tension feels very real. The acting is stellar. As extreme as some (hell, all) of the content is, it isn't by any means a cheap exploitation film. This is not your father's torture porn. Yes, there is a strong underlying theme and message underneath all the rape, murder and flatout apeshit insanity...but it can be very off-putting. Not recommended to everyone, these comments (I won't call it a review) should let you know if you would possibly like it.

Repo Men - 7/10

Not a bad flick - entertaining, but with less musical numbers than Repo: The Genetic Opera.

Synecdoche, New York - 9/10: Good lord I love Charlie Kaufman and I have no idea why it took me so long to see this (probably just because I missed it in the theatre). Philip Seymour Hoffman was great, as always, as Caden Cotard, the delusional play director with all kinds of relationship issues and various psychoses. Samantha Morton was also great as Hazel, one of his on again, off again love interests. Such a visually amazing film and very poetic in what it's doing; I really related to Cotard as a character and watching him as he sees his entire personality unfold before him, through the use of various characters, was amazing. I'm sure there are some things I did not fully get about this film, but I'll be watching it again to see if I can pick up on them.

Been meaning to see this will have to add it to the list. I also love FSP.

haha, I thought the same thing. I thought it was poorly put together and had no flow or direction.

I thought it was pretty clear that
he was lying the whole time, pretty early on
. a lot of it would be pretty dumb otherwise. at least thats how i remember it. I remember kind of liking it after seeing it, though in hindsight I don't think it was anything special. I really don't remember much of it actually, now that I think of it lol

They convicted the guys for price fixing so he wasn't lying about that. I thought he was lying about that as well but they convicted those guys so he had to be telling the truth about that but they didn't disclose that at all until the ending cus everything seemed to be a lie.

I love Kaufman too - Adaptation, in particular, was one of my favorite movies - but I found Synecdoche, NY unwatchably ponderous. I had high hopes but literally had to turn it off. I might like it better on a second viewing but I don't think I could bring myself to try it again.

I could definitely see people not liking it, even if you do like Kaufman, but I really connected with Caden as a character, so I was in from the very beginning. Definitely one I will be re-visiting soon.

Last night of the Noir festival at the local theatre. I missed so many good movies, but happy I caught this one:

The Killing - 9/10: Early Kubrick Noir film from 1956 about some guys planning on robbing a horse racing track. This was just awesome and while you would not necessarily know this was a Kubrick film if you weren ot aware going in, you can definitely see some of style coming through in the camera work. Some fantastic dialogue, which is key to a good noir flick, plus some fun characters and well shot scenes of everything going down. Interesting use of animals in this film too; there is one scene, where a gunman is being hired, one guy is holding a giant auto-shotgun, and the other guy is holding a puppy. The contrast is funny and the entire scene is hilarious as the gunman is completely over the top and ridiculous. Good times!

Tyson - 8/10

Autobiographical type documentary on Tyson. "I found sanity from my insanity". Says it all. I know someone mentioned it before but who knows how great he could have been if had some proper guidance after the death of Cus D'Amato.

Terry Pratchett's Going Postal - 6/10 - Going Postal was one of the few Discworld books I didn't quite care for, same with Making Money. They just felt a bit boring.

I loved the Hogfather and Color of Magic movies but this one was like the book - rather boring. The sets and characters looked awesome and the acting was great imo, just the story is a bit dull.

They really need to make some of the others, like The Last Continent, Guards! Guards!, Moving Pictures, Reaper Man, Eric, or Witches Abroad

I liked the features. Was using them since I joined the site. They just half assed it into the ground.

Requiem for a Dream: 10/10

This is a dark, dark movie, but not as uselessly or needlessly dark as say.. The Road. Every bit of brutality inflicted on the characters is necessary and very poignant, and makes sense given their circumstances. Shooting is masterful, and the acting is incredibly believable. I know people with traits of every character in this movie, the only difference being the drug habits. So bottom line don't expect to be uplifted by this movie, but if you want a quality, intense and brutal look at 4 people who's lives enter death spirals due to drugs, it's worth a look. Also, anyone with kids whom you suspect of using or thinking about using drugs, especially the hard stuff, show them this.

Some Kind Of Wonderful - 6/10
Weakest of John Hughes films. It has his feel, but not his style. He should have directed.

And why is it that movie kids always have crazy ass shit scattered around their bedrooms? When I was growing up my room had to be neat & tidy and I damn sure couldnt have crap covering every square inch of floor & wall & ceiling.
