It was ok although it bothered me how much it seemed like Brazil
Brazil is on my media player. Don't know when I'll get around to watching it - sounds interesting.

[Event Horizon is definitely] one of the best of that genre. I re-watched it on Blu recently and it holds up pretty well.

I totally don't get this. I saw EH for the first time about a year ago and I thought it was horrendously cheesy. The cast was almost uniformly awful, although Sam Neill managed to stand out as even more campy than the rest. I don't know, I liked the concept and the sets were pretty great, but I didn't find it scary and in fact almost gave up on the movie before the end. Maybe you can convert a heathen like me -- what did you find great about it?
Shutter Island - 7/10
As usual... most people hate a movie and I like it.
I love last minute plot twists like this and the I see Dead People movie.
I thought the build-up was great. The tension builds slowly and when that one scene finally comesit creeped the crap out of me and I really do not find any movies scary. Don't know, it just worked for me and still does. It's not like it's a great movie, but I found it to be a fun and effective one.(the one where they see the broadcast message from the things that had boarded the ship)
Makes sense. That scene was deliciously creepy. So wasthe brief segment at the end where Sam Neill shows Lawrence Fishburne those quick cuts of the crew being tortured (now turned into an infamous animated gif). I kind of sadomasochistically wanted to see more of the "hell" dimension alluded to throughout the film, but maybe this is one of those things that is more effective because the audience doesn't really get to see it.
Also, when I rented EH, I got a bum disc that kept freezing up my PS3 and I was forced to skip about half a chapter. I really wanted to like the film, but the frequent stops coupled with some of the cheeseball performances kind of blew the atmosphere for me. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

The Square - 9/10

Fantastic movie, kept you gripped and ready for something "bad" to happen throughout. Queasiness never leaves you, acting is great - this is one movie that I did not consider/predict one of the suspenseful elements.
The bad: The plot is overly simplistic and the pacing is very slow, which gives you lots of spare time to sit and consider the gaping holes in the script (actually the entire mission that forms 80% of the story is, in my view, nonsensical). There is so little going on that the movie gets quite dull in places - I nodded off, and funnily enough so did a friend of a friend who also saw the movie over the weekend.
Ah yeah, that could definitely ruin things in a film like that. Try it out and let us know if you like it anymore on a re-watch.
Very much looking forward to this one; I have not seen it playing anywhere yet unfortunately. :hmm:

People did not like this movie? I freaking love it. :hmm:

I thought Shutter Island was too cheesy and you basically knew what was going on a little after the beginning of the movie. I was highly disappointed with the move seeing as I love DiCaprio and Scorsese.
El Secreto de sus Ojos a.k.a The Secret in their Eyes - 9/10
Excellent movie. Well made, wonderfully acted. The story is deep and satisfying.
Winner of the Academy Award for best foreign film.
The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie - 3/10:
